A child using hypnosis?
That meant Susic had been hypnotized.
Natalie suddenly realized it.

“Baron, you’re saying Susie only hit Finn because Anna hypnotized her? That it was something she did unconsciously?”
Finn’s mom’s face paled at the thought.
Baron’s voice was low and steady. “That’s my guess. I followed Susie to the art room just now. All the windows were open, but I still smelled the faint trace of a hallucinogenic incense in the air. Now tell me, could a five- or six-year-old really have that kind of ability?”
Perfume blending and hypnosis weren’t like Susie’s hacking talent. They required rare gifts.
Natalie and Finn’s mom exchanged a long look.
“Shall we keep watching?” Finn’s mom asked.
As the mother of the injured child, her words carried weight. Natalie had no reason to object.
The security chief pressed play again.
On screen, Anna tried to hypnotize Susie, but Susie wasn’t falling under. Instead, her attention was caught by the pendant itself.
She stroked it curiously, asking with a bright smile if it was a gift for her.
Anna’s face twisted with fury.
Even Baron wasn’t immune-Natalie and Finn’s mom both shivered involuntarily.
“My God. Is that really the face of a five-year-old? It’s too sinister, too cold,” Finn’s mom whispered, goosebumps rising on her arms.
Natalie felt the same chill, though she kept silent since Finn’s mom had already spoken.
Unfortunately, Susie was too busy admiring the pendant to notice Anna’s terrifying expression.

From her sleeve, Anna pulled a small stick of incense. She lit it behind her back, then slipped a mask over her own face.
Susie blinked in surprise. “Anna, why are you wearing a mask?”
“Nothing. I caught a cold. I don’t want to spread it to you. Do you like this pendant, Susie? Let’s take it to the window, in the sunlight. It looks even prettier.”
Thrilled, Susie nodded eagerly.
But Baron and Natalie could both see the trap. The breeze from the window carried the smoke straight toward Susie.
Sure enough, Susie’s gaze turned hazy.
“Anna, I feel a little dizzy…”
Anna dangled the pendant in front of her eyes.
“Really? What about now? Still dizzy?”
Susie instinctively followed the swaying pendant with her eyes.
Anna coaxed softly, “Focus, look carefully. Doesn’t it make you feel even dizzier?”
The longer Susie stared, the more vacant her eyes became, until she collapsed onto the floor. Anna sneered, snapped the pendant shut, and leaned in to whisper commands in Susie’s ear. Like someone possessed, Susie rose to her feet, her steps stiff and unnatural as she walked out. Finn happened to be coming back from the bathroom. Spotting her, he brightened and waved.
“Susie!”
But she didn’t even glance at him, walking straight past.
Hurt, Finn pouted and ran after her, grabbing her arm.
“Susie, where are you going? You can’t go that way! Teacher and the principal said it’s dangerous!”
He clung tightly to her.
A sudden glint of menace flashed through Susie’s eyes.

“Let me go!”
The voice that came out of her mouth didn’t sound like hers-it was dark, chilling.
Finn flinched, but he refused to let go.
“No! Teacher said it’s dangerous! Come on, I’ll take you to your brother!”
He tugged on her arm to pull her back.

But Susie’s brow furrowed with killing intent. She grabbed a flowerpot nearby and smashed it down toward his head.
“Ah!”
Finn screamed, his small body crumpling to the ground as blood gushed from his forehead.
Finn’s mom gasped, her hands clamping over her mouth as tears burst from her eyes.
“My Finn!”
Natalie and Baron felt their hearts sink.
Yes, Susie had been drugged and hypnotized, but she had still struck Finn.
And he had only tried to stop her, not fight with her.
Natalie’s chest tightened with guilt.
“You have my word-we will take full responsibility for Finn.”
“Hm?”
Before Finn’s mom could respond, the security chief suddenly frowned in puzzlement.
All eyes swung to him at once.
