His eyes were icy as he ground out, “Principal, my daughter was drugged and hypnotized in your kindergarten. She was pushed into nearly committing something irreversible against Finn. Do you really think keeping secrets will protect you now? You should understand—if these videos leak, or if I hand them to the police, your kindergarten may not survive.”

The principal’s face went deathly pale.

She looked as if she might cry.

Natalie frowned, sensing this was bigger than she’d imagined.

Natalie and Baron didn’t answer either.

The principal let out a long sigh.

“That land behind us used to be a psychiatric hospital. They kept patients with severe schizophrenia there. One night, for reasons still unknown, the hospital suddenly caught fire. Everyone inside burned to death.”

Baron frowned. Something about it didn’t sit right, but he stayed silent.

Natalie and Finn’s mom, though, were absorbed.

“And then? So many people died–didn’t the government step in?” Finn’s mom pressed.

The principal broke into a sweat.

If not for knowing who Finn’s father was, she’d never have tolerated such bluntness.

“The government did investigate. They matched the list of registered patients with the remains. It was close enough. The fire broke out in the dead of night, around one or two in the morning. Rescue efforts were too late, the casualties were horrific.”

She sighed heavily.

Natalie pictured the tragedy in her mind’s eye, her heart softening with sympathy.
