“But the police might not think that way.”

Natalic said this, then immediately called Baron, but there was no answer. Her heart fluttered uneasily.
Chris arrived quickly.
“Ma’am, the boss sent me to help. What happened?”
Chris saw the teacher lying on the ground and noticed only Natalie and Finn’s mom were present, so he asked what had occurred.
Natalie spoke softly, “I don’t know. I’ve already called the police. Where’s Baron?”
“Mr. Baron took Miss and Finn to the hospital to have Susie checked,” Chris replied at once.
Natalie asked again, “Did he take his phone?”
“Well, when Mr. Baron got out of the car carrying the kid, his phone slipped from his pocket into a nearby puddle. It won’t turn on now. Mr. Baron told me to come quick in case you needed him–he prioritized the child’s checkup and said he’d buy a new phone later.”
Hearing that made Natalie frown deeper.
“Why is there a puddle at the entrance?”
“I don’t know. Looks like someone watered the plants nearby today and left the tap on; it made a small puddle,” Chris explained.
Natalie’s instincts told her something wasn’t right.
“Find out who watered the plants today. Was that puddle accidental or deliberate?”
Chris understood immediately. “Yes, I’ll send people to check right away.”
“And call my brother and my dad–see if anyone we know can reach someone at the police station. Just make the contacts for now; they might come in handy later.”
After giving instructions, Natalie watched Chris hurry off to make calls.
Finn’s mom admired how calmly Natalie handled things. “Wow, you’re amazing. If it were me, I’d be a mess. My husband knows people at the police department–if you need it, I can help.”

Natalie felt warmed by the sincerity. “Thank you. If I need help later, I’ll ask.”

“Good. Since we’re friends now, don’t call me ‘Finn’s mom.‘ My name’s Aubrec. Let’s use first names, okay?”
Aubree held out her hand. Natalic took it.
“Natalie.”
“Wonderful. I can’t believe I have a friend with such design talent.”
Chris returned from his call and, seeing Aubree’s relaxed attitude toward Natalie, smiled and introduced himself. “I’m Chris, the Miss’s bodyguard. If there’s anything you need from the Stone family, ask. Since you’re our Miss’s friend, the Stone family will help.”
Aubree froze. “Which Stone family?”
There was a Stone family in Ocean City, but it wasn’t especially prominent. Aubree doubted Natalie was from that family–Natalie’s design talent didn’t fit that image.
Chris laughed, “Our chairman is Waylon and our president is Flynn.”
At that, Aubree swayed; had Natalie not steadied her, she likely would have fallen onto the teacher. She stared at Natalie in shock.
“You’re the Stone Group’s young miss? Oh my God–I can’t believe my luck! I actually know the Stone Group’s young miss!”
Natalie shrugged. “A title’s just a name. Let’s just be ourselves.”
Aubree nodded eagerly. Then the police arrived.
The principal and the head of security followed when they heard the sirens. They all fell silent at the sight of the teacher unconscious on the ground.
The police quickly arranged for the teacher to be taken to the hospital, then turned to question Natalie and Aubree.
At first the questioning was routine, but when the officers learned Baron had slapped the teacher earlier, their attention fixed on Natalie.
“Ms. Stone, where is your husband Baron now? We need to speak with him to take statements.”
“What do you mean?” Natalie’s face hardened.

“My daughter was drugged and hypnotized and ended up hurting another child. We, as parents, came to the kindergarten to find out what happened. The teacher flirted with my husband and even tried to cause trouble; he slapped her–I admit that. But her current condition has nothing to do with my husband!”
Natalie spoke fiercely, determined to make clear Baron had no connection to the teacher’s injury.
