Jensen told himself that once this was over, if he treated Natalie a little better, surely they would return to how things once were.
After all, five years was no short time. What woman could so easily forget the feelings she had invested over five years?
The thought filled him with confidence again.
Pointing at the black–clad men before him, he barked, “You hear me? Get out of here right now! If you leave immediately, I’ll let this go. Otherwise, once my men arrive, you’ll pay dearly–I’ll see to it myself.”
The leader’s eyes narrowed.
He knew he only had a few minutes to take Natalie away. If he failed now, he’d have to find another opportunity later–and crossing paths with Chris again wasn’t something he looked forward to. Chris was troublesome, and he couldn’t guarantee another clean win.
With that thought, he made his decision.
“If Mr. Jensen enjoys playing the hero so much, then he can come along with Ms. Stone.”
He signaled his men.
“Take Ms. Stone and the two men with her. If they resist, cripple them and drag them away.” Jensen hadn’t expected them to ignore his identity as president of Luke Corp.
He had studied some self–defense, and with Natalie watching, being captured would be humiliating. He couldn’t let that happen.
“Natalie, step back. As long as I’m here, they won’t hurt you!”
The words had barely left his mouth before a fist smashed into his face. His nose burst with blood.
“You dare hit me?”
The sting of his broken pride hurt even worse than the pain in his nose. He hadn’t even had time to make his heroic stand.
Baron raised an eyebrow.

“Mr. Jensen, that’s it? With the way you squared up just now, I thought you’d at least last three hundred rounds. But one punch and you’re already bleeding?”
He poured fuel on the fire without hesitation.
Jensen nearly exploded.
“Shut up! You’re just a kept man. No matter what, I’m still better than you, coward!”
He roared and lunged forward again.
The leader’s face hardened.
“Enough wasting time. Knock them out and take them.”
The men struck harder and faster.
Baron had hoped Jensen might hold them off long enough for Yvonne and Westin to arrive. But at this rate, Jensen would be beaten to death in minutes.
Baron’s mind spun quickly. He leaned close to Natalie and whispered, “Sweetheart, pretend to faint. We’ll let them take us and see who’s really behind this.”
“Alright.”
Natalie nodded.
Watching Jensen struggle helplessly made her frown.
If Baron had rushed in, he’d do better than Jensen, but still–against so many trained fighters, even he couldn’t protect her completely. She knew it.
Baron was smart–he always chose the right moment.
Jensen was pummeled with blow after blow, no chance to fight back.
He glanced desperately at Natalie and shouted, “Baron, you coward, take Natalie and run!”
Natalie could see that, for once, he was being genuine. But she didn’t need it.
“Stop hitting him! We’ll go with you.”
She spoke up at once.
Better to be taken than owe Jensen a debt of gratitude. Besides, she understood Baron’s plan.

She wanted to know who was pulling the strings too.
Hearing her words, Jensen’s eyes reddened. He thought she was worried for him.

Such a good woman–how had he ever been so blind as to think she was dull and boring?
“Natalic, don’t worry about me. If I die for you, it’s worth it. Just go!”
“But I’m not willing! Jensen, there’s nothing between us anymore. I don’t want to owe you anything.”
Her voice was sharp and clear.
Jensen’s heart turned cold.
The leader wouldn’t waste another second.
“What are you waiting for? Take them all!”
The men surged forward, binding Natalie and Baron and covering their eyes with black cloth.
Jensen, battered and bleeding, was dragged along with them into the vehicle.
As the car sped off, Baron nudged Natalie lightly and whispered, “Are you afraid?”
“With you here, I’m not afraid.”
