If it had been before, handing the woman back to Sam wouldn’t have been impossible. But this time, there was no way.
If she couldn’t get enough money, her son’s life would be over.
At the thought, Beth’s gaze turned cold.
“Sam, do you really have to fight me on this?”
Sam sneered. “Don’t make it sound so ugly. I’m not stealing from you. We’ll just make a trade. I promise the woman inside won’t be harmed in the slightest. But if you refuse, then I won’t stop my people. It’s clear the two of them have a grudge. You know what happens if the goods get damaged fighting each other–that’s not my responsibility.”
Regret crept into Beth’s chest.
If she had known, she wouldn’t have meddled.
Even if Sam had beaten Sharon to death, Beth wouldn’t have opened that door.
When Kasen came before, she hadn’t dared let him get a good look at Natalie’s face, afraid he’d snatch her away. She never imagined that dodging Kasen would only draw Sam’s attention.
But Beth couldn’t back down.
If she gave in now, the one who died would be her son.
Her eyes narrowed as she said to Sam, “We can talk. But first, keep your own goods in line. There are still three hours until the auction. If something happens to them in those three hours, you know exactly what your fate will be.”
The moment Sam heard that Beth was willing to talk, she sensed an opening.
Of course.
How could Beth ever compare to her?
She was Kasen’s lover.
All it would take was a whisper in his ear, and Beth’s entire month’s earnings would vanish.
The thought made Sam feel smug.

“Fine. Since you know how to be sensible, I’ll agree.”
Sharon had expected Sam to back her up. Hearing this, panic flooded her voice.

“Sam, you can’t listen to her! Let me ruin Natalie’s face! Once she’s disfigured, she won’t fetch a good price. Then I’ll naturally be the highest bidder!”
The words were barely out before Sam slapped her hard across the face.
“Shut up! You think you can compare to Natalic? You’re not even worthy of a single one of her fingers. You’d better stay put in the cabin. Step out of line again, and I’ll kill you myself.”
She yanked Sharon by the hair and dragged her back inside. Sharon shrieked in pain, but Beth seized the chance to hurry to Natalie’s side and whisper, “Natalie, if you help me just this once, I can send a message out for you.”
Natalie’s eyes narrowed.
Beth hadn’t said anything about helping her escape, but if she could send a message to Baron, there was still hope of rescue.
She gave a small nod.
“I’ll help you. But you have to keep your promise and send the message.”
“I can only send one, and it’ll be a huge risk. But if you help me, I’m willing to take it.”
Beth knew exactly what she was saying.
If she struck a deal with Natalie, it would mean betraying the boss. If anyone found out, her death would be brutal.
But she had no choice.
Her son couldn’t wait any longer.
Without this commission, both she and her son were as good as dead.
For her son’s sake, Beth had no other path.
Natalie saw the desperation in Beth’s eyes. She knew the woman might not be trustworthy, but right now, she had no other option.
Just then, footsteps echoed outside.

“Beth, have you decided yet? I’ve already knocked Sharon out. If you agree, we can swap the goods right now. Don’t worry. With my relationship with Kasen, even if Sharon can’t sell for a high price, I’ll get him to plead with the boss to save your son.”
Sam strolled back in as she spoke.
Natalie and Beth immediately pulled apart, putting distance between them.
Beth looked tormented.
“Sam, usually I’d let you have your way. But this time, can’t you help me just once? We don’t have any real grudge between us. You know me—if I can’t get a big commission on this deal, my son won’t survive. Consider it me owing you a favor. Whatever you want from me in the future, I’ll do it. Just help me this time, please?”
Her voice trembled, her tone pitiful and humble.
Seeing Beth like this filled Sam with a twisted pleasure.
Among them, Beth was one of the prettiest. But because she had always refused to give herself to Kasen, she was constantly targeted.
Even so, she still clung to her pride, still tried to hold on to scraps of kindness.
If not for that, if she hadn’t treated the women who came through here too gently, even trying to help them escape, then with her looks and her cunning she’d never still be working at the very bottom.
And yet, despite everything, Kasen still harbored fantasies about Beth.
