She no longer cared that her face was burning; she lifted her head and gave Baron’s waist a vicious pinch before snapping, her tone sharp yet adorably fierce, “Don’t look at me! Eat your food!”
Baron winced in pain but didn’t dare provoke her further.
His wife being shy was fine, but if he pushed too far and she banned him from the bedroom tonight, he’d be doomed.
Thinking of that, he looked up pitifully and murmured, “Okay.”
Then he obediently lowered his head and began eating, but only touched the rice in his bowl and the single dish Natalie had served him.
Seeing that, Natalie felt a twinge of irritation. This annoying man–he’s definitely doing this on purpose!
But no matter how she tried, she couldn’t stand seeing him look so pitiful.
In the end, she had no choice but to yield.
“All right, just eat properly. If you keep this up, I’ll go back to Ocean City by myself.”
The moment Baron heard that, he didn’t dare play around anymore. Grinning from ear to ear, he began eating seriously with her.
By the end of the meal, both of them were content and full.
Afterward, noticing that Natalie looked tired, Baron walked with her for a short while before suggesting she take a nap.
Natalie had wanted to refuse, but then Baron said, “The Velvet Sleep toxin in your body may be neutralized, but some of the aftereffects remain. You need rest and plenty of water to flush out the residual chemicals. I know you want to visit Beth and her son, but they’re in good hands—a full medical team is looking after them. Rest first; once you’ve regained your strength, you can go see them properly.”
Hearing the concern in his voice and seeing the worry in his eyes, Natalie didn’t argue.
Besides, she really did feel weak.

This Velvet Sleep stuff is no joke. Her body still heavy and sluggish.
Baron personally escorted her back to the bedroom.
Remembering his injury, Natalie asked him to lie down and rest with her for a bit.
He didn’t refuse.
They lay down together, fully clothed, and soon Natalie nestled into his arms.

Feeling the soft warmth of her body and the faint sweetness of her scent, Baron’s heart overflowed. Maybe this is what happiness feels like. Finally, I get to have it too.
Natalie fell asleep quickly in his embrace, but Baron didn’t sleep.
He carefully eased his arm out from under her, lit a calming incense stick, tucked the blanket around her shoulders, and quietly stepped out of the room.
Shauna was already waiting outside.
“Mr. Baron,” she said, frowning, “you’re still injured, and Beth’s son’s surgery will take hours. Are you sure you want to go now?”
Her tone carried real worry.
Baron nodded.
“My wife’s kidnapping wasn’t simple. When Anna first took her, that might’ve been personal; but the fact that someone managed to extract her right from the police station–someone like Anna could never pull that off alone. That means there’s someone powerful behind her. And the reason they targeted Natalie was likely to leave Ocean City vulnerable, so they could strike at the Stone family. I don’t know the full reason yet, but Beth’s been on that ship for years; she must have information.”
He took a slow breath before continuing, “That woman’s only reason for holding on right now is her son. If I don’t act, someone else might save the boy first–and then whatever she knows won’t belong to us anymore. While Rio’s still stuck in Ocevaris, we need to move fast, get to Beth before he does. Otherwise, we’ll be at a disadvantage.”
Shauna had to admit everything he said made sense, but thinking of his condition–his exhaustion and the wound still healing–she couldn’t help worrying.
“But Mr. Baron, your body can’t take much more. You already pushed yourself too hard saving Mrs. Baron. If you overdo it again and she finds out, I’m not covering for you.”

Remembering how much Natalie cared about him, she added with a sigh, “She’ll be furious.”
Baron glanced toward the bedroom door, smiling faintly. “I know my limits. The operation won’t take too long, and it’s nothing I can’t handle. I’ll be fine–I won’t pass out.”
“What if she wakes up and asks where you went?” Shauna pressed.
“I lit the calming incense,” Baron said evenly. “It should keep her asleep for about four hours. That’s more than enough time. If I’m not back by then, tell her I went to deal with some internal matters. If she’s still asleep, just let her rest.”
Shauna sighed. “All right.”
Since his mind was made up, there was no point arguing further.
Baron quickly changed and left.
When he arrived at the hospital under his Witch Doctor persona, Beth was sitting blankly in a chair outside the operating room, her eyes empty and lifeless.
Baron frowned slightly, an inexplicable unease tightening in his chest.
