The corridor finally fell into silence, every Alpha retreating to their rooms, leaving behind only shadows and the weight of unspoken truths. I was still shaken by the fact that someone had discovered my secret and that I had been so close to exposure.

More than that the fact that… Cassius was killed so mercilessly. I had never witnessed anyone being slaughtered in such a way. It was monstrous, close to impossible. Ronan had made Cassius bury the truth with his grave.

Yet, in that moment, I realized something chilling; these past three months, I had only thought I knew Ronan. But I knew nothing. That smile, those playful teases, the careless flirting, they all faded from my mind the second I saw him carve Cassius apart.

For the first time, I saw his bloodthirsty side, a side that carried no emotion, no hesitation in his eyes. It was…alarming.

So alarming that I almost forgot Aunt Marissa’s phone call. She told me she lied to both my Father and Uncle, saying Seth had left for Lupine Academy. It must have happened during her anniversary party last night, and thankfully, my Father seemed to believe her. If he hadn’t, I would already have been dragged out of here.

But even so, the truth left me on pins and needles. Everyone now thought Seth was in the Academy, when in reality I was here.

I had to be quick. I just needed to hold on until the Supreme Alpha’s throne. A few more trials…and then I would no longer need to hide or fear.

I walked slowly down the dormitory corridor, heading toward my room, when I caught sight of someone standing up ahead. Since it was dark, I used Phina’s vision to see only to find it was Ryker. My steps faltered the moment our eyes met. His aura was darker than usual, heavy, almost suffocating.

He stood rooted in the center of the hall, his gaze fixed solely on me, as though he had been waiting. Something about him felt off, but I forced myself to keep moving, steady and silent, attempting to pass him without a word.

Then his voice cut through the quiet. “I hope what you said the other day is true.”

I halted beside him and tilted my head up to meet his gaze. His expression was strained, triggered, though I couldn’t imagine what I had done to provoke him.

“What?” I cocked my brows in confusion, “Have you gone crazy?”

An enraged smile curled the corner of his lips, his wolf looked deep into my eyes, “I will answer that after I confirm my suspicions. Just pray my suspicion is false,”

I froze under his gaze for a longer moment, before he slowly pulled himself back and then stormed down the corridor.

I pursed my lips watching vanishing back, “What the hell is wrong with this guy?”

For some reason his every word unsettled me.

I resumed my walk and finally reached my room.

The space was dimly lit, shadows pooling across the walls, and the moment I closed the door behind me, my breath caught. Ronan sat on the edge of his bed waiting shirtless

I froze in the center of the room, our eyes locking in utter silence.

Of course, no wonder he had returned so smoothly, without anyone suspecting or questioning him.

He rose slowly, every movement deliberate, and crossed the space between us without breaking eye contact. He stopped just in front of me, close enough that I could feel his heat, his overwhelming presence.

Neither of us spoke for a long time. Then his low murmur brushed against my skin, his hot breath ghosting my face. “Say it…ask me.”

It was as if he could read me like an open book.

My fists clenched tightly at my sides before I finally forced the words out. “Did you kill your mother?”

A dead silence fell over us. His expression didn’t shift, not a flicker.

“Yes,” he replied.

My heart jolted violently at his confession. The fear I had carried within me all along crystallized into reality.

He kept his gaze steady, violet eyes boring into me, as I clenched my fists harder at my sides and whispered, “Why did you kill her?”

His answer came just as quietly, “She asked me.”

My chest tightened. “What?”

His next words struck like a blade. “She didn’t want to live a sinful life. Her last wish was for me to free her from it.”

My heart shattered. A mother begging her son for death. A son forced to grant that final plea. Even though his face remained unreadable, his eyes hollow, through the bond I could feel the suffocating weight of it, the grief still eating at him, still consuming him alive.

I closed the distance by an inch and slid my arms around his waist, pulling him into an embrace.

Ronan gasped softly, stunned as I leaned my head against his chest. His heartbeat thundered beneath my ear, uneven in a way I had never heard from him before. A moment later, his arms folded around me, drawing me tightly against him.

We stayed like that, silent, lost in the comfort of each other’s presence. I could not tell how long, only that I never wanted to let go.

His hand rose to caress my hair, his voice breaking the silence. “Did I scare you earlier?”

I tilted my head up to meet his eyes and shook my head. “I was just…surprised.”

A faint smirk tugged at his lips as he pulled me even closer, his tone shifting playfully. “Your surprise turned me on, Seraphina.”

Heat rushed to my cheeks as I felt the hard press of his arousal against my belly. I wanted to ask him more about what he was doing as an intruder but for now I forget all of that under the feeling of his bulge. My breath hitched, my face burning as I stammered, “Y–you… since when are you…”

My words broke into a gasp when he suddenly swept me off my feet and tossed me onto his bed. My body bounced against the soft mattress, heart racing, as he crawled toward me with predatory grace like a tiger closing in on his prey.

Butterflies exploded in my stomach, sparks racing through my veins. “What are you doing?” I gasped when he tugged my pants down and buried his face between my thighs.

His eyes flicked up to mine with a wicked wink. “Planning to eat you.”
