My heart plummeted into my stomach, vanishing into nothing. How–how did he know? No one was supposed to know Ronan hadn’t stayed in the healers‘ wing. Even the healers themselves didn’t know. Because if anyone discovered it, they’d realize why his rut had ended and it wouldn’t take much to guess who he had been with.

A wave of terror splashed over me, ice–cold and bone–deep. But I masked it, locking it behind my teeth, and snapped, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was asleep that night, injured, exhausted, and starving. I don’t know who entered the room or who left it.”

His eyes darkened further, something monstrous flickering in their depths. He seized me by the arm this time, dragging me closer, leaning down until his face hovered just above mine. His hot, furious breath spilled across my lips like a storm.

“You dare lie to me…” His voice was a snarl now, more wolf than man.

A chill ran down my spine, sharp as a blade.

“You…” I gritted my teeth, twisting with all my strength, tearing my arm free. “Fucking stop this madness!” I growled, casting a glance at Grace still standing alone in the parking lot below. My legs moved to step past him. “I have more important things to do. Don’t block my way again.”

Before I could take a step, Ryker’s hand shot out. He caught my shirt and ripped it open.

A gasp tore from my throat as the buttons popped, clattering onto the floor like brittle bones. Instinctively, I clutched the torn fabric to my chest, reaching to strike him only for him to catch my wrist and yank me back into his body.

“You!” I snarled, eyes blazing, as I raised my other hand to slap him. Only he twisted my arm behind my back, forcing me to arch against him. The thin bindings of my breasts were now only inches from where the last button had given way.

“So you were just sleeping, huh?” His voice was a venomous whisper. His blue eyes glowed like molten ice as they trailed down my exposed neck.

My heart nearly stopped when I realized what the ripped shirt revealed, red blooming love bites scattered across my chest like marks from some unholy ritual.

His eyes roamed over every single one, and with each bite his expression grew darker, more dangerous, like a predator scenting blood.

The look on his face turned monstrous, an insane, terrifying snarl that triggered something buried deep within me, some memory I had no name for.

I froze in his arms as his wolf’s voice thundered from him, not spoken but spat into my soul:

Hearing his words, I lost my composure entirely. Rage and terror fused into a single, electric current running through my veins. With every ounce of strength I had, ignoring the sharp pain of his grip, I tore myself free. My heart hammered like a trapped bird, fighting against the unknown fear coiling through me, a suffocating fear that seemed to know my name before I ever spoke it.

Then like a mirror cracking, Phina, the part of me I buried, rose in my eyes.

“What did you just say?” I hissed, my voice trembling with fury as I glared at him. “Betray you?”

I took a step closer, trembling but unflinching. “Who the fuck are you?” My voice sharpened like a blade. “You’re no one. Nothing to me!”

His presence loomed darker with every word, but my rage burned hotter. “Yes,” I spat, raising my brows in defiance, “I fucked Ronan. So what?”

“Again?” My fists clenched, nails biting into my palms. “What the hell are you talking about?! Are you insane?! Stop this–stop it now!”

Before I could finish my sentence, he moved towering over me, his shadow swallowing mine, his gaze boring into my soul.

“I gave you an opportunity to run once,” he whispered, his head tilting like a devil, “and now I am giving you another,” his voice cracked like thunder but slithered like silk. “So…run, Seraphina Nightbane.”

The sound of my name, my true name, left me cold. My face drained of blood, my lips parting soundlessly.
