Chapter 207 The Wolves
THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW
Alpha Jude remained motionless by the bedside, his hand holding Grace’s as if letting go would shatter the fragile thread keeping her alive.
“Alpha Jude, you should rest…eat something,” the Academy Assistant William murmured softly, but as usual there was no response.
Jude’s silence was almost terrifying, but William tried anyway. Sitting by her side, holding her hand, and watching her breathe offered no answers, no certainty of when she might awaken from her coma. It could be an hour, a day, a month…or years. Everything depended on the strength of her wolf, her spirit, and her will to survive.
Defeated, William began to leave, then paused as a mind–link pinged him. He turned back quietly, voice low. “Alpha Jude… Alpha Seth Darven has been expelled from the Academy.”
Jude’s ears twitched, a flicker of emotion crossing his face, but he remained still. William excused himself, leaving them alone in the heavy silence.
Slowly, Jude rested his head against Grace’s chest, closing his eyes. “Grace…did you hear? Seth Darven is expelled,” his voice was soft, almost breaking. “You said he’s your best friend…wake up, and we’ll go stop this if you want that, okay?” A single tear slid down his cheek and landed on her chest.
Then something shifted. Grace’s breathing altered subtly, a tiny pulse of motion running through her fingers. Jude’s heart leapt as he watched them twitch, then her eyelids flutter. Slowly, painfully, her eyes opened.
“You said you don’t cry,” she whispered, tilting her head toward him.
Tears flooded Jude’s own eyes as he froze for a heartbeat before leaning down, hugging her without pressing even an ounce of weight on her. “I–I’m a liar,” he admitted, his voice breaking.
Grace’s own eyes glistened as she lifted a trembling hand to his hair. She felt the depth of his fear, the enormity of his decision to stay, even while she lay in a coma. In that instant, she knew she could not die. She had to wake. She had to fight, if only to keep him by her side.
They lingered in a silent embrace before Jude slowly pulled back, still holding her hand. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m good…but you don’t look good. You should at least eat,” she murmured.
Jude pouted. “You said we’d eat together. I was waiting for you to wake up so we could enjoy this meal… together.”
Her gaze landed on the tiffin he had kept for her, even though the food was cold and inedible. Her heart stirred, and she smiled softly.
They shared that smile in silence, neither mentioning the loss of their child.
“I’m craving oysters,” Grace said stubbornly, trying to sit up.
Jude immediately helped her, despite worrying for her health. He propped a soft pillow behind her back. “We’ll have them when you’re healed,” he said gently.
“Great! Then I’ll be healed by tomorrow,” she teased, smiling in a way that made Jude’s heart ache and soared at once. He rose, turning to the water jar, emotions threatening to overwhelm him.
Grace watched Jude’s back in silence, feeling every beat of his turmoil through their mate bond. She smiled faintly, then let her gaze drop to her belly, where she felt only emptiness. “You said something about Seth Darven. What was it?”

“He’s been expelled from the Academy. By the Council,” Jude answered as he lifted the jug to pour water into a glass.
Grace froze, listening carefully as he went on to recount everything that had happened. She remained quiet, absorbing every word.
“Now Seth Darven will be gone…” Jude finished, sitting back down and handing her the glass.
Grace blinked at the water, then spoke slowly. “Have you ever heard the story of the Hare and the Wolves?”
Jude frowned, confused. He shook his head. “What is that? Tell me.”
Grace began softly, her voice carrying a strange weight:
“In a vast forest ruled only by wolves, there came a lone hare. The wolves had already hunted every other creature, dominating the land with teeth and claws. But this hare fragile, juicy, foolish enough to step into their territory, surely had only one fate.
The wolves lunged. The hare darted, not away, but straight between them. Snarls and howls filled the meadow as the wolves collided, snapping at each other in confusion. The hare vanished into the tall grass.
Days passed. They hunted it relentlessly. Yet each time they thought they had it cornered, one of them limped away bloodied snared by thorns, misled by false trails, trapped in burrows that led to nowhere.
Finally, exhausted and furious, the wolves gathered in a clearing, certain the hare was at its end. Together, they leapt…”
Grace paused, sipping the water from Jude’s hand.
Impatient, he leaned forward. “And then what happened?”
At the same time in the Academy hall, the sealed parchment fell at Seraphina’s feet. She stared down at it, at the Council’s attempt to end her future.
Ronan stood frozen, his eyes locked on her. The echo of her earlier gesture still held him back, yet from their mate bond he felt…nothing. The hall fell silent as Austin snarled, “It’s too late to regret. This is the price for crossing the Council-”
His voice broke off. His eyes faltered.
For the first time, Austin seemed caught off guard, struck by something in Seraphina’s calm expression. When she finally raised her gaze to him, her voice rang clear and sharp,
“Alpha Gideon, did you hear? I am expelled.”
Every head turned. Alpha Gideon was entering the hall, his presence heavy enough to silence the room at
once.
Back in the quiet chamber, Grace smiled faintly behind her glass, finishing her tale: “They thought the hare was the prey…but the hare was hunting all along.”
Gideon reached the Council’s dais and casually laid a scroll on the desk before them. “Alpha Seth Darven. In the name of the Alpha King, who placed his seal and signature upon this decree….and in answer to the wish you made in my office earlier- His eyes swept the room. “I, Alpha Gideon, hereby overturn your expulsion.”
The hall drowned in silence. Shock rippled through every Alpha, while in the chamber Jude’s heart thundered as he understood, the wolves had fallen into the trap the hare had set long before it ever set paw in their territory.

Austin stood rooted, his wide eyes staring at the scroll bearing the Alpha King’s mark. His fists clenched at his sides as the realization cut through him.
Seth Darven had not gone straight to the hall when summoned. He had stopped by Alpha Gideon’s office first just long enough to hand over the scroll, invoking his wish.
But the wish was bound by law; it could only be used for oneself, never for another.
And Seth Darven’s wish was…. “When I am expelled from the Academy, I use this scroll to overturn that decision.”
Blood appeared in Austin’s eyes when he realised it was not him who decided all of these things. He had been played by expelling Seth Darven, instead of the two Alphas, sealing and signing his expulsion.
Seraphina’s lips curved into the faintest smile, sharp enough to slice the silence. “Then,” she said, her voice cool and steady, “I’ll be excusing myself.”
Wait! I Have Something to Say!
