But what right did this woman have to speak to her like that?
Evander jumped in first, speaking to Stella without any courtesy. “Who do you think you are? This dress was custom-made for Eve. It fits her perfectly.”
“Evander, shut up!”
Cold sweat broke out on Asher’s forehead. He looked at Stella. “Which room are you in? I’ll walk you over first and then explain everything.”
Stella avoided Asher’s hand. “It seems your relationship with this young lady is quite close.”
“You’ve misunderstood. Eve is just my sister.”
“But I thought you only had one sister, Lemira, wasn't it? Not some Eve.”
Stella’s tone remained calm throughout.
Seeing Stella’s expression, Lemira’s tense heart finally relaxed. It seemed this Ms. Waverly wasn't as fragile as she looked.
The next second, Stella looked over at her and offered her a tissue.
Lemira took it. “Thank you.”
“I should be the one saying that.”
Stella had heard everything from outside—the entire conversation among the Langstons and everything that had transpired.
Asher softened his tone, speaking to Stella. “I’ll get you another birthday gift.”
He couldn’t afford to offend the Waverlies right now.
“No need. I quite like this dress.”
Stella walked slowly toward Evelina. Though her steps were slow, it was still apparent she had difficulty walking.
Evelina suddenly realized something. “Asher, is—is she Ms. Waverly?”
After all, Asher was being so deferential, talking about a birthday gift, and the woman had a noticeable limp.
Asher quickly nodded. “Yes, that’s Ms. Waverly.”
Evelina’s expression changed instantly. She stammered awkwardly, “Stella, I…”
“Don’t call me that so casually. You’re older than I am.”
Stella glanced at the dress Evelina was wearing. “Now, take off my birthday present.”
Evelina’s expression froze. “I—I didn’t mean to.”

“How do you even walk? You tried to push her over on purpose, didn’t you?”
Lemira preemptively questioned Evelina.
Asher shot Lemira a surprised look. What was wrong with her, always stealing his lines?

“Eve, I know you’re innocent. I’ll stand up for you.”

“Shut up!”
Asher angrily raised his hand and slapped Evander across the face.
Evander shouted in shock, “Asher, you dare to hit me? For a crip—”
Lemira grabbed a bottle of red wine and forced it against Evander’s mouth, pouring it in.
Just shut up!
