A flash of anger crossed Asher’s eyes. This was a direct slap in the face, but he couldn’t say anything to Stella.

He couldn't argue with her words, especially since the Langston family was in the wrong today.

Asher could only swallow his pride. “You’re right. I’ll make it up to you with another birthday gift later.”

Stella glanced at Evelina over there. “A driver’s daughter should know her place. Wearing fine clothes doesn’t turn a crow into a phoenix.”

Evelina’s voice grew shrill. “Asher, I did nothing wrong! It was Lemmy who deliberately scared me, that’s why I spilled the wine on the dress.”

Evander chimed in, “Asher, Eve is my fiancée, your future sister-in-law. If anyone should apologize, it should be Lemira!”

Lemira sneered. “Do you two think Ms. Waverly is a fool you can so easily deceive?”
