"Until you're at the hospital, you'd best keep your mouth shut."
Orion's tone was sharp, a mixture of worry and anger.
Nestled in his arms, Lemira could see the strong, defined line of his jaw. Her own heart began to race.
She lowered her gaze and leaned quietly against his chest.
When she had been trapped in that corner alone, she'd be lying if she said she wasn't scared.
She had been given a second chance at life; she certainly didn't want to die like that.
But then this man had braved the danger to find her, shattering the walls she had so carefully built around her heart.
Orion took Lemira directly to the Everhart family's private hospital.
Once again, the man wore a grim expression, as if it were a matter of life and death, and had the hospital director summoned immediately.
The director was the same old doctor from before. He saw Lemira, covered in soot and grime, and concluded it couldn't be anything serious.
The director said calmly, "So, what minor injury do we have this time that would heal on its own in an hour?"
Hearing this, Lemira lowered her head in embarrassment.
Orion, however, remained stone-faced. "She was trapped in a fire. I need you to check her lungs and throat."
"That does need to be checked immediately. Go with the nurse for some tests."
Upon hearing the word "fire," the director's demeanor changed. He quickly wrote up the orders and had a nurse take Lemira for an examination.
Lemira was wheeled away in a wheelchair, making it look as though she had a serious leg injury.
Orion looked at the director sternly. "The burn on her leg, will it heal completely?"
"From what I can see, it's not severe. There shouldn't be major issues long-term, but it will take time."
Orion's face remained grim as he said nothing.
The director looked up. "How did you get caught in a fire?"
"There was a fire at the company. She ran in to save a prototype and got hurt. I don't even know what to say to her."
Orion sounded exasperated. Maple Group only existed because of her.
She was far more important than the company.
