When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 31

The crowd buzzed with chatter, the air thick with noisy speculation.

Winona and Charlotte were furious. What a family of vultures! Matteo was the one who had done something disgusting, yet here his family was, trying to turn the tables and blame Henrietta. Just looking at their faces was enough to make you sick. It was infuriating!

Charlotte couldn't hold back any longer. “You call that sincere? A hundred and fifty thousand-dollar engagement ring is your proof of sincerity? Do you have any idea that the birthday gifts Henrietta received today are worth billions? Did you even wish her a happy birthday once today? Who are you trying to fool with this devoted partner act? You should be embarrassed to even say the words!”

Matteo remained silent.

Pamela started crying. “Are you saying my son is too poor for you? He might not be as wealthy as you, but he was completely devoted to you! You were together for four, almost five years, and now you suddenly break up with him… Haven’t you wasted five years of his life, too?”

Jolie joined in, her voice thick with tears. “Exactly! Your family is rich and powerful, we get it. But if you’re going to break up with him, you at least owe us a reason. Why? Tell us! Are you a gold-digger who found someone richer, or did you fall for someone else? You have to give us some explanation!”

“What nonsense are you spouting!” Winona, enraged, strode forward and slapped Jolie hard across the face. “Don’t you dare try to slander Henrietta! Do you think you can just disrespect the Sargent family heiress like that?”

If Henrietta hadn't told her to hold off on exposing Matteo's affair, Winona would have broadcasted it right then and there, tearing his hypocritical facade to shreds and getting his family off the stage for good.

Jolie, clutching her cheek from the slap, cried pitifully but refused to leave the stage.

Down in the audience, Artina was stunned. She couldn't believe Henrietta had actually broken up with Matteo. And today of all days?

Just then, Jolie’s little monster of a son ran crying onto the stage. He immediately dropped to his knees, hugged Henrietta’s leg, and started wailing. “Don’t hit my mommy, and don’t break up with my uncle! I’ll be good from now on, I promise!”

Henrietta was taken aback. She remembered this brat from a dinner they’d had once. He was an absolute terror, and his family spoiled him rotten.

Not only was Jayden putting on a convincing show, but he was also digging his nails sharply into Henrietta's leg. The pain made Henrietta’s brow furrow, and the anger she’d been suppressing finally erupted. She lifted her leg and kicked the little brat away.
