At the same time, she was tempted by Matteo's plan to empty the Sargent family's coffers and enjoy the wealth for herself.
But how long would that take? Five years? Ten? Maybe even longer? Or perhaps Matteo was just lying to placate her. The moment he reconciled with Henrietta, he would kick her to the curb.
Artina remained silent, deeply conflicted.
Matteo said, “You should go. Don’t be seen so close to me in public.”
Artina stomped her foot in frustration. “You two have already broken up! What’s wrong with me being close to you?”
Matteo shot back, annoyed, “I’m trying to win her back! You being close to me is just going to sabotage everything!”
Suddenly, an idea struck Artina. “How is it sabotage? Everyone knows you broke up, so it’s perfectly reasonable for me to be seen with you now. Can’t I just be someone who admires you and is pursuing you now that you’re single?”
“You…” Matteo frowned. “What are you getting at? Artina, I warned you, causing trouble won’t do you any good! Don’t drag your whole family down with you!”
Artina retorted, “Are you an idiot? You wanting to get back with her is your business. How does my pursuit of you conflict with that? I’m helping you! With me pursuing you while you’re trying to win her back, won’t that ignite Henrietta’s competitive spirit and possessiveness?”
Matteo fell silent, tempted by the idea. But he was also worried Artina would stir up trouble. Her wild-horse personality was far too unpredictable.
Pamela chimed in, “Ms. Harmon, your idea isn’t bad. But you’d better not be foolish and try to sabotage this.”
“Exactly!” Jolie piped up.
