Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 109

"What did the doctor say?" Liliana asked.

No matter what happened, if it involved Liliana, she was always the one to blame. She was used to it by now, and her mind was focused on what mattered.

Vida's sobs grew louder. "The doctor said his condition is very serious, that he could do something… drastic at any moment. As for treatment… it will take at least six months to see any improvement."

"Is this the best doctor?" Liliana asked, kneeling beside her. "Are there better specialists abroad?"

Vida wiped her tears and looked at her. For a moment, mother and daughter stared at each other, their eyes glistening. Then Vida pulled her into a fierce embrace, her cries echoing in Liliana's ear.

"This was the only connection your father had left. This is the best doctor in the country. We can't even afford him, let alone someone from overseas!"

The hug was so tight Liliana could barely breathe, but she didn't struggle. She sank to her knees, silent tears tracing paths down her cheeks.

"If something happens to Hale, the family is finished. Your father will blame me," Vida choked out, her grip loosening as she pulled back to hold Liliana by the shoulders, her eyes boring into her. "Why can't you understand how difficult this is for me? For my sake, please, save Hale. Will you do that?"

Liliana's hand, which had been resting lightly on her mother's arm, fell limply to her side. The world, once a watery blur, sharpened into focus.

Staring at the mother who had raised her for over twenty years, she was struck by a profound sense of disconnect. An invisible crack had shattered her perception, leaving behind only a stranger she no longer recognized.

"Say something! Are you going to save him or not? Are you?" Vida shook her violently, her grip desperate.

Liliana's head spun. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore and shoved her hands away. "I'll save him!"

Dr. Brooks hesitated. "Fifty percent. With his condition, no doctor, here or abroad, can make any guarantees. Whether he recovers, and to what extent, will depend heavily on the patient's own will to live."

Mental illness wasn't like a physical ailment. Medication could only do so much; the real healing had to come from within.

"What does the treatment involve?" Liliana asked, completely unfamiliar with this world.

Dr. Brooks patiently explained the process. The initial phase required a long-term hospital stay for intensive psychotherapy and medication management. Once his condition stabilized, he could transition to outpatient visits. But how long that would take was impossible to predict.

When Liliana came out of the office, Chuck had arrived and was waiting with Vida in the hallway. They rushed over as soon as they saw her.

"Liliana, what did the doctor say?" they asked in unison, clinging to a sliver of hope even though they had already been told everything.
