Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 122

Juniper was furious, but most of her anger was rooted in concern. "How could you go back?"

"Well… He has money and power. Is going back really so bad?" Liliana offered the same justification she'd been using to convince herself, hoping it would placate Juniper.

"What about your freedom? Didn't that jerk force you to quit your job?" Juniper had no idea she was still working.

"No, he didn't," Liliana insisted. "I'm completely free."

"I don't believe you," Juniper snapped. "Prove it. Come over to my place at Polaris Court tonight. We'll have dinner and you can tell me everything face-to-face."

It was true; this wasn't a conversation for the phone. After a moment's thought, Liliana agreed. "Okay. See you tonight."

With the dinner date set, Juniper hung up without another word. In the two years of Liliana's marriage, she had never once been able to meet for dinner. Cedric came home every evening, and Liliana was always expected to have a meal ready. If she could actually make it tonight, then Juniper would believe she still had some semblance of freedom.

The phone screen went dark, reflecting the blue sky, the white clouds, and Liliana's own troubled eyes. She sighed and packed up the rest of her breakfast.

"Sorry, Junie just called me. I didn't know you hadn't told her yet."

Douglas Sewell's voice came from behind her. She turned to see him standing there and realized he must have overheard her entire conversation.

Liliana stood up. "It's fine. She has every right to be angry. I should have told her myself."

"How have you been these past couple of days?" Douglas asked, stepping forward so they stood facing each other with the bench between them. The morning sun cast a soft glow around him, highlighting his gentle eyes and kind smile, making him seem warm and approachable.

Liliana raised a hand to shield her eyes from the bright light, squinting so she couldn't quite make out the tenderness in his expression. A faint smile touched her lips. "I'm doing okay."

Not long after they left, a figure emerged from a corner of the rooftop. It was Nina Shepherd. She had arrived earlier than Liliana but had actively avoided her, not even bothering with a greeting. Having overheard the conversation between Liliana and Douglas, she was stunned. Douglas hadn't shown his face since Liliana had been assigned to her team, so Nina had assumed he was just doing someone a favor by giving Liliana a token position.

But now, it seemed they had a direct relationship. *See you tonight?*

A jolt of alarm shot through her. The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. She pulled out her phone and called Sylvia Woods.

"Sylvia, about this whole plan to mess with Liliana… maybe we should drop it. It looks like she's really close with Mr. Sewell!"

"What happened?" Sylvia's voice was laced with irritation at the mere mention of Liliana's name, though she masked it well.

Nina recounted what she'd heard. "Mr. Sewell is going to Liliana's house tonight. He's even going to cook for her!"
