Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 143

Back home that evening, Liliana made some final adjustments to the Expo Manor design on her computer. Once she was satisfied, she emailed the file to Sylvia. As dusk fell, the city lights began to glow outside, casting the room in a soft, dim light.

She stood up and stretched, then, on a whim, went downstairs to help Erma with dinner. In the blink of an eye, she had been working for nearly two weeks. The days of wearing an apron and spending her time by the stove already felt like a distant memory. She found she missed it; the simple, familiar tasks were a welcome release from the pressures of her new job.

"Ma'am, it's clear Mr. Cedric loves your cooking," Erma said. "If you have time one day, maybe you could write down some of your recipes for me. I could practice them so he enjoys his meals more. He works so hard, we need to make sure he's eating well."

Erma had seen it with her own eyes. Just the other day, she had over-fried a fish and was about to throw it out, but Liliana had salvaged it, and Cedric had eaten almost the entire thing. In contrast, the elaborate meals Erma carefully prepared were often left half-eaten.

"How about we make dinner together on the weekends when I'm free?" Liliana suggested, skillfully trimming a pork tenderloin. "He is a picky eater. I'll write down a list of things he doesn't like." A verbal list wouldn't do; Cedric's dietary restrictions were too numerous and specific. For example, he ate parsley and ginger, but never in the same dish. He wouldn't touch sautéed cucumber, only raw.

"Oh, ma'am, you take such good care of him," Erma said with a warm smile, pointing to the refrigerator. "My memory isn't what it used to be. Once you write it down, I'll stick it right here so I can see it every day when I'm cooking!"

Did she take good care of him? She had spent two years learning his preferences, discovering habits even Cedric himself wasn't aware of. During her first year of marriage, she had cooked a different meal for him every day for a month, meticulously noting in a journal which dishes he finished and which he barely touched. Over time, patterns emerged.

Liliana's eyes welled up, but she quickly blinked back the tears and turned on the stove.

Cedric arrived home at seven, his face etched with fatigue. He hung his coat and bag by the door and walked toward the living room, but he paused as he passed the dining area, catching sight of a familiar figure in the kitchen.
