Liliana massaged her temples as a sharp pain shot through her head.

She had never faced a crisis so overwhelming, so world-shattering. Her thoughts were a chaotic mess.

After a moment of consideration, she decisively blocked the number. She couldn't bear to receive another photo or video. It would destroy her mood and crumble the resolve she had so painstakingly built, leaving her twisted in knots of misery.

Her silent departure had displeased Dowager Forrest, who called to demand an explanation. After a great deal of placating, Liliana managed to smooth things over.

For the next two days, she focused on preparing for her interview on Monday. Gradually, the work pushed her gloominess to the back of her mind.

At ten o'clock on Monday morning, Liliana arrived at Tranquil Solutions. She stated her purpose to the receptionist.

The receptionist checked her list. "And what is your name, please?"

"Liliana Preston."

The receptionist, who had been flipping through a stack of résumés, froze. She looked up immediately. "Miss Preston, I'm so sorry, but the design assistant position has already been filled."

Liliana's gaze swept over the résumés on the desk. Just then, a man in his early twenties, looking fresh-faced and eager, walked up behind her. "Hi, I'm here for the design assistant interview!"

The receptionist shot an awkward glance at Liliana before steeling herself to check the man's name. After confirming it, she handed him a visitor's pass.

"I'd like to know why," Liliana said, her gaze steady. After being rejected from multiple interviews last Friday, she had already suspected something was wrong.

The receptionist stammered, "Miss Preston, please don't make this difficult for me. The order came from upstairs. But… I saw your résumé. You're far more qualified than a recent graduate. The company has no reason not to hire you. Maybe you should think… did you offend someone important?"

There was a pause on the other end. "It's just a postponement. We were notified today that the design department will now be managed by Mr. Sewell, a partner of our CEO, Willow. Mr. Sewell returns from abroad in three days and will be conducting your interview personally."

The reason didn't sound fake. In truth, Liliana had no other choice but to wait. "Alright. Thank you for letting me know."

While she waited, Liliana played the piano at Juniper's restaurant for two days.
