Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 38

Even through the crowd, she saw him.

Cedric had his arm around Sylvia, whose forehead was adorned with a small white bandage. They were surrounded by reporters, microphones thrust in their faces.

"I never thought someone could be so violent," Sylvia said, her voice trembling pitifully. "He attacked me as soon as he saw me. I was so scared. Thank God Cedric was with me." She looked up at Cedric, her eyes shining with adoration.

Cedric's face was a mask of protective fury. He pulled her closer, gently patting her back. "I will see to it that he is held accountable for this."

A man defending his lady's honor, his entire being radiating a cold, menacing anger.

The reporters had initially rushed over when they heard Chuck was being mobbed. But when they stumbled upon Sylvia, injured and being personally escorted by Cedric, they had quickly switched targets.

The nurse helped Liliana to her feet, and they started walking toward the entrance.

Liliana's eyes, once so bright, were now dull and lifeless, like a stagnant pool of water reflecting the image of Cedric's grim face. But the man in her reflection only had eyes for the woman in his arms.

"Miss, let's go around," the nurse suggested. The main entrance was blocked.

Liliana stopped, now parallel with Cedric, and looked at him over the heads of the reporters. Perhaps her stare was too intense, because he suddenly turned his head.

She had never been so disheveled, so utterly pathetic in front of him. A thin cut ran down her cheek, a single drop of blood tracing a path to her jaw. A piece of lettuce was stuck in her hair, and a sticky, unidentifiable liquid stained her clothes.

She couldn't read the expression in his eyes. Was it disgust? Contempt?

"Cedric," Sylvia's voice pulled him back. "The light's green. What are you thinking about?"

He forced a smile. "Nothing."

It was true what they said. A woman's drama could drive a man insane. He decided then and there that he needed to have a serious talk with Liliana. If she was going to continue this behavior, then the divorce couldn't come soon enough.

He forced her from his mind and focused on the road.

Back at the hospital, in a small treatment room, Liliana sat silently as a doctor cleaned her wounds. The cuts were deep and needed to be disinfected, but she didn't even flinch.
