Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 92

Liliana didn't respond. She was thinking it would be so much easier if she could carry the divorce papers with her at all times. Then she wouldn't have to go out of her way to find Cedric just to get his signature, to see him one more time.

Nina dropped her off downtown around eight o'clock. Liliana caught a cab back to Polaris Court, arriving at half-past eight. She rushed into the building and up to her apartment.

The moment she opened the door, she found Juniper standing there, having struck a dramatic pose like a statue waiting for her long-lost friend. Liliana paused, then burst out laughing. The heavy weight in her chest lifted instantly.

"If you didn't come back soon, the food getting cold would be the least of your problems. Your one and only best friend was about to starve to death!" Seeing her smile, Juniper's playful frown deepened. "You're not allowed to work this late anymore. You need to spend more time with me!"

"Okay, okay," Liliana said, taking off her shoes and coat. "Tomorrow's Saturday. I'll spend the whole day with you."

"That's more like it. Now, let's eat."

Juniper linked arms with her and led her to the dining room. She had been watching from the window and had told Douglas to reheat the food as soon as she saw Liliana arrive downstairs. Half of the six dishes were already warm.

Liliana hurried over and reached for the spatula in his hand. "Douglas, let me do it."

"You've had a long day. Go rest. It'll be ready in a minute," he said, not letting go.

Her fingertips brushed against his, and she quickly pulled her hand back. "But you both had long days, too. I feel bad letting you do all this."

Juniper, already seated and eating, mumbled with her mouth full, "Just serve me like this when I get divorced someday, and we'll call it even."

"I'm adjusting fine, really. I'm picking up the design work quickly." Taking care of Cedric and the house for two years had been a non-stop job in itself. After a week of office work, she felt she was managing well.

Douglas smiled gently and said no more, content to listen to her and Juniper chat. By the time they finished eating, it was ten-thirty. Since Liliana didn't have to work the next day, Juniper decided to stay the night, and Douglas left alone.

As he walked out of the Polaris Court complex, he noticed a Maybach parked on the side of the road. The engine was off, the windows were tinted, and the interior was dark. But he knew Cedric was inside. He hesitated for a moment, then the car door opened.

Cedric swung a lean, powerful leg out, his polished leather shoe hitting the pavement. He leaned an elbow on the open door, his posture deceptively casual. "What a coincidence. Passing by again?"

"Not this time," Douglas said honestly. "I was here to see Liliana."
