Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 114

Nicole

John doesn’t take his eyes off my face. All around him, the guys have gone silent.

This whole situation has gotten out of hand and now I’m starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn’t have said that, especially considering how he and Ma left each other.

“I see your Ma in you,” he declares after a few minutes of just silence. “But I see someone else—no doubt the bastard she cheated on me with!”

His sudden aggression scares me. He stands up and looks away from me almost in disgust, and then his gaze settles on Mason, who’s his biological son.

I don’t think they look alike at all. John doesn’t even look like the young version of himself in the old photos Ma had. Photos taken in the seventies. He looks…totally different

“How is your Ma? I haven’t heard from her since she skipped town.”

“She’s dead,” I spit.

“Oh, well. Good. I hope she met the end she deserved, especially after what she did to me.”

Mason struggles against his restraints again, and says in a low, threatening voice, “You wash that filthy mouthbefore you talk about my Ma!”

John chuckles. “Your Ma wasn’t all that. She wasn’t a righteous woman at all. I don’t know what she told you, but it was all a lie. She cheated on me in hopes of getting money to skip town with you. Nothing can convince me otherwise, and I fight people who try to tell me I’m wrong.”

“Fight me, then!” Mason shouts. Gosh, I want to knock him over the head with something because he’s only making the situation worse.

“Oh, I will,” John laughs. “I gladly would. But first, if you don’t mind, I’d like to have a little fun with your sister.

How does that sound? Hm? Then I’ll be fully energized for our fight. Heck, I might even let you win.”

The men in the warehouse burst out laughing. As for me, shivers race down my spine, and I grow so cold that for a moment it feels like I can’t breathe.

Mason stills, too. At first, I think he won’t say anything else, but then he declares, “If you touch my sister, I’ll fucking kill you.”

“Ooh,” John says in a mocking tone of voice. “I’m so scared of you, boy. You don’t stand a chance against me. Maybe if you’d stayed behind. But you’re a city boy, aren’t you?

With a…what was that? A business card. You’re no match for me.”

I take a deep breath. I just want this to end, and I don’t know what it’ll take for that to happen; it’s unclear to mewhat John wants.

“What did you come here to do?” John asks again. “I just don’t get it. Why would you look for that crackhead and go to Richard’s? Are you looking for trouble?”

I answer before Mason can do it. “We were looking for you.

This stuns him. It might be our only chance to make it out of this place alive.

And unscathed.

“Me?”
