Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 117

Roman

I light my tenth cigarette of the last hour and lean against the side of my car, smoking it. It’s past midnight and I’m standing in front of Mason’s apartment building.

The only reason I’m here is because Nikki totd me they’d be heading back Sunday evening when we last spoke. I’ve been here for four fucking hours now, and there’s no sign of them. I’ve called the police. I’ve got my lawyer working overtime to try to figure out what the hell is going on in that piece of shit town.

Ritchie’s has fucking disappeared, too, and I’m threatening to sue the company he’s from for incompetence.

I’m losing my mind here. Still, I have the hope that they’re going to show up, and that her phone is off because something happened. Maybe they got mugged or something. The town has a high crime rate, according to the information my lawyer gave me. The police department is refusing to cooperate.

Everything is so fucked and I blame myself because l haven’t been paying attention to her, what with all this shit that’s surrounding the paternity claim. But my cheek swabs are in, and in a week, this bullshit will be cleared up and I won’t have to-

The sight of Mason’s car driving toward me makes myheart skip a damn beat. I toss the unfinished cigarette aside and move closer to them. When Mason recognizes me, his jaw tenses, and for a second, it looks like he’s contemplating whether or not to run me over. Nikki takes off her seatbelt and jumps out of the car.

“Roman!”

I close the distance between us, crashing my body against hers while Mason looks for a place to park his car. I hold her tight, inhaling her sweet, familiar scent. I kiss the side of her neck repeatedly and say, “Nikki, you scared the shit out of me! Where the hell were you? What happened?”

“It’s a long story.”

“I wanna hear all of it now.”

She nods, then looks back at her brother’s car. I hold her by the hips and tell her, “You’re spending the night at my place. No negotiations.”

“I just have to tell Mason something.”

I press a kiss to her lips. “I’ll be in the car.”

I can breathe a fuck of a lot easier now that she’s here.

Dammit, what a fucking nightmare. I should call my lawyer to tell her she’s been found so he can call the search off, but not now. Now, I don’t have the time.

Besides, let him work a little longer. Justify his salary.

I’m not going to take my attention (or my hands) off Nikki tonight, not after the scare she just gave me. I can’t evenbegin to imagine what she went to do there.

I watch them from the windshield. Mason has his arms folded, and she looks like she’s telling him she crapped her pants or something. Mason then nods, and they embrace before she walks over to my car, her handbag with her.

Once she’s in the passenger’s seat, 1 pull her into my lap to kiss her. Nikki exclaims and says, “Roman! Anyone could see us!”

“I couldn’t care less,” I murmur against her lips. “Do you have any idea how shitty the last twenty-four hours were without you? Do you? I’ve got everyone working to find you in Ashvale. When you didn’t answer the phone, I got so worried. I thought something happened to you. I called the police, Nikki.”

“We were robbed,” she explains with a sigh. “It was all really unexpected.”

I squeeze the flesh of her thighs and my dick jumps in my pants. “Why’d you even go?”

“I’ll explain when we get to your place.”

I drive, not to the penthouse, but one of the houses I own in a quiet but pretentious neighborhood. The mansion cost me a fortune and when i bought it two years ago, l instantly regretted it. Why did I buy it when I had the penthouse, and it was unlikely that I’d ever need so much space? Now, I’m glad I have it. Who knows? Maybe Nikki and I can move in someday. Start a family.

I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. Sure, it can only happen once this situation of mine with Garith’s associates is resolved, but I’m optimistic for once. She’s here. I’m here. I missed her like crazy. We’re going to spend some time alone. Fuck, there’s a lot to he thankful for, and I don’t know what I would’ve done if we’d separated like l initially proposed.

I would’ve just driven myself crazy with longing.
