Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 131

ROMAN

The sight of Leonardo Calieri making his way toward me sickens me in ways that simply can’t be explained.

Violent thoughts fill my mind and I have this urge to punch him before he even has a chance to open his mouth.

I keep my fists on either side of me, though. Nothing good will come of that.

I just have to bide my time until I can figure out what these people want from me.

“Roman, I’m glad you came,” Leonardo says as soon as he gets close to me. He’s all smiles. “Are you having a good time so far? The event hasn’t started yet, but there are many people around.”

“I don’t know that many people.”

“It’s a great time to make friends, then. Wouldn’t you agree?”

I stay silent after this and sip my drink. There’s nothing worse than this. I hate being in a situation where it feels like my hands are tied and I have to keep a shit-eating grin on my face. Well, I’m not grinning this time around, but it feels like l am. The muscles of my face are tight.

Silent rage is coursing through me, threatening to spew out of my mouth at any moment”Well, I have to run,” he declares. At fucking last.

“Stay.

Have another drink. I don’t want you to miss the show.”

He walks away and I ask myself what the hell he means by that, but I don’t think too much of it. As soon as he walks away from me, I notice a group of people entering the ballroom, and my heart seems to skip a damned beat when I see who it is.

Carmen.

And the worst part? The guy whose arm she’s on, I have no idea who he is, but two guys are trailing after them and I recognize their faces right away from earlier.

They’re the fuckers who were following me.

They must be the cousins who came from Russia to ‘help her out’ with this situation. Chills race down my spine. watch them walk past, and I assume I’m on the safe side due to my position near the bar, but no such luck. They all turn to look at me, and it almost looks coordinated. The shock on her face upon seeing me is what convinces me that it isn’t.

Their footsteps slow to a stop. Carmen is standing several feet away from me, fuming. I know my face is blank, but deep down, I’m wondering if this is what Leonardo meant about enjoying the show.

Did he plan this? Did his father? Why?

They’re the ones who killed Garith Lowett. I had nothingto do with it. So, whatever scene this lunatic causes is on them and not me.

The guy who’s standing next to her whispers something in her ear, but she pulls away from him and makes her way toward me. I can tell by his disappointed look that he thinks this is a bad idea.

At least one person in their group is sensible.

“You think you’ll get away with what you did? Killing my mother?”

This is the first thing that Carmen says to me once she’s in front of me. No hello. No introduction. Nada. I scoff and tell her, “I had nothing to do with that.”

“Oh, really?” she asks a little loudly. Her eyes? She has a crazy look in them. Crazy and vacant at the same time.

Hell, her eyes even fill with tears, and this time, I feel uncomfortable because I sure as hell don’t want to be called a killer out loud. “Well, it’s too late for you to take things back. You’ll pay nonetheless. You and everyone who was in that room!”

“Careful with what you’re saying, Carmen.”

“I’m not afraid of you!” she spits. “Better tell your friends the same thing.”
