Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 150

NICOLE

When I get home in the evening, Mason hounds me with all sorts of questions.

“How’d the whole thing go? Did you see him? Did you talk?

Honestly, I’m not used to this new side of Mason where Roman is concerned. It was easier when they hated each other and didn’t try to meddle in my life. “Yes, I went to see him.”

He follows me into the kitchen, and when I don’t expand my answer, he grits out impatiently, “And!? What happened next!?”

I meet his gaze. “We didn’t reconcile, if that’s what you’re asking. He was an even bigger dick than he usually is.”

“What’s that Supposed to mean?”

“What it means.”

“Nicole.”

I open the fridge to grab a can of orange juice. “What, Mason? Why do you want me to forgive him so much? | thought you’d be happy.”

“That’s unfair.”I pop the can open and take a deep gulp of the cool, sour drink. It’s so refreshing and just what I needed äfter this hectic day. | didn’t even have lunch. It’s all a mess. “I’m just pointing out a fact. I don’t understand you.”

Mason takes a deep breath and runs a hand down his face.

His eyebrows and the tip of his ears are starting to get red, so I know he’s flustered. “Look, the reason why I won’t let this slide is because I was unfair with him, especially when I always figured he never cared about you and was just using you. We’ve had a chance to talk and I’m telling you, he cares. He’s getting shit-faced every day because he can’t bear the thought of being without you!”

His words affect me more than I care to admit.

“Everyone deserves forgiveness,” he continues. “And I know he has his flaws, but he cares about you, and you don’t know how that makes me feel as a brother, knowing that there’s someone out there who’d die for you the same way I would.”

I swallow more juice to keep the knot forming in my throat down. But my eyes are stinging and I’m starting to lose my hold on my emotions.

When I don’t say anything, Mason continues. “Are you really gonna let that cunt Emeralda do this to you? Let’s face it—she was always envious of you. I never liked her and you know it. Will you let her win? This is what she wants, by the way.”

I sigh and rub my eyes. The can is empty, my stomachfeels a little too full, and this is starting to get on my nerves, but only because I’m not as over it as I thought I was.

Maybe I’ll never be.

“It’s not about her winning, it’s about him keeping something like this from me. Can’t you understand? He hid the fact that he got someone else pregnant.”

“Out of fear of losing you.”

“That makes no sense.”

“Doesn’t it?” he questions, stepping closer to me. “You told me there’s something you’re keeping from him, too.

– Remember? Why didn’t you tell him?”

I inhale sharply when he says this, pain crashing into me all over again, the same way it did when that gynecologist told me I’d never have babies again.
