I can’t believe it.

After three and a half hours, Roman and I are married, and I’ve decided to take his surname, so I’m no longer Nicole Monroe.

I’m Nicole Hayes.

Gosh. When we decided to get it done in the morning, it didn’t really hit me that hard. Now that the papers have been signed and we’re bound for life, things are starting to sink in and I can’t believe it.

We’re both in the car, and my hand is in his. The wedding rings he got are stunning, but he still insisted that we should change them to something else.

Well, that doesn’t really matter to me.

What matters is that we’re together.

“I wish I could take the day off,” I comment.

Roman makes a face. I know this arrangement with Angus irritates him, but there’s nothing we can do about that. “I know. Don’t worry, we have more than enough time to celebrate our marriage. Alright? Don’t stress about it.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “You seem calm about this.

Suspiciously so.”

“Do I?”

“Absolutely. What are you up to?”

“Me? Nothing?” He kisses me on the lips. “Have a great day at work.”

I give him another suspicious look before getting out of his car and making my way to the front of the building. I look back one more time to make sure he’s driving away, but he’s not. He’s watching me instead, and again I have the feeling that he’s up to something.

Or maybe he’s just waiting for me to disappear from sight.

That’s a possibility.

As I step into the elevator, I take a deep breath and focus on what I’m going to tell Angus when I get up there. I want him to know that he can’t control my life, and I’m married to Roman now. I expect him to respect that.

I’m super late to work, to the point where the secretary asks me if I’m doing okay. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks.”

Her eyes go to my ring right before I walk past her and enter my office. I drop my things, take another deep breath, and then decide that it’s time for me to see Angus.

I approach his office, and I don’t come across anyone to stall me. Just as I raise my hand to knock, I hear voices from inside that make me stop.It’s him and Sebastian.
