MONALISA

I was pacing about my room, wondering what they were talking about and wondering if I should walk back in there and go listen to what they were saying but I held myself back.

After some time, the door of my room opened and Lucius was the one standing by it.

“What… What did she say?” I asked as Lucius walked into the room.

“She has agreed to let you come with me.” Lucius replied and I felt a heavy weight being lifted off my chest.

Finally! I could be with Lucius now.

Lucius spread his arms and I pressed myself into his arms to hug him.

“Do you want to go back home with me now?” Lucius asked, his hand gently patting my hair.

“Y-yes” I agreed and pulled back.

“What about my mum? Is she moving back?” I asked.

“I don’t think so” Lucius replied and I pressed my lips into a thin line.

Mum was letting go of me reluctantly. I don’t know what Lucius said to make her legs go but I knew she wasn’t willingly letting go of me.

I stepped away from Lucius and walked out of my room to the living room but mum was no longer there. I headed to the other room and found the door opened.

“You don’t have to say goodbye” mum said, immediately sensing my presence.

“You can just leave quietly” she was standing by the window in the room, her back facing me.

“Mum” I called softly.

“I am only letting you go for a reason. For your safety. And if that’s compromised, I will bring you back to me. And the very moment, I find a way to keep you safe myself, I will take you away from him too. So go now, enjoy his company while it lasts” “Mum, why…. Why aren’t you accepting us genuinely?”

“Because I can’t” mum was still looking outside of the window.

“Leave with him, Lisa.”

I turned with a step but suddenly rushed into the room. I hugged mum from behind.

“I love you mum” I whispered but got no response.

After a few seconds, I pulled away from the hug and retracted. I was back at the door when I heard my mum speak.

“I love you too” she turned to look at me.

“And that’s the only reason I am letting go for now”

“Can… Can I hug you? One real hug?” I asked and she opened her arms.

She walked to me this time and hugged me tightly. I hugged her back, just as tightly.

I was going to miss mum. A lot. And I really hoped I was doing the right thing. Leaving mum and going with Lucius. I hoped I would never regret the decision.

“We are back” Lucius said, holding the door of his room open for me to walk in.

“Your room still feels like you” I whispered.

“It also feels like you cause it’s our room” he replied and I gave him a small smile.

He swept me off my feet and carried me to the bed, laying me down gently.

“I will ask the doctor to come over soon and check you up once more.” He said, tucking me into bed.

“For now, I will go down to the kitchen and prepare you something nice to eat myself, alright?” He asked and I nodded positively in response.

He was about to get up from the edge of the bed where he had been seated when I grabbed him by the wrist.

“Cupcake ” His voice was gentle.
