As I stepped inside the luxury hotel suite, I heard a click. Lucien had locked the door behind me.
My pupils dilated, and just as I opened my mouth to speak, I saw Lucien turn to me and smoothly remove his tie.
He skillfully worked the buttons of his dress shirt, and the shirt slid down his waist, revealing a toned chest.
“Lucien,” My voice trembled, my back already slick with cold sweat. This man was sinful inside and out. Why do all the bad guys have to have delicious physiques that make things cloudy in the leading female’s head? It wasn’t far.
“Lucien, you…”
My throat tightened as I took a step back, only to be blocked by the locked door.
“Are you afraid to play a little game with me, Claire?” His long fingers gently lifted my chin, his eyes playful.
“Lucien, don’t do this! I know you hate me; you’ve made that abundantly clear, but we can’t go there.” I shook my head vigorously, my voice nearly choking.
“Go where? Claire, such a dirty mind. Do you always think of me in such a sinful light?”
Before I could respond, Lucien’s eyes lit up with an unexpected excitement. He walked over to the TV and pressed the remote’s power button.
The screen lit up.
The image showed multiple bare bodies writhing, muffled gasps and moans spilling from the speakers.
I froze, feeling my blood run cold.
I covered my eyes with my hands, but the disturbing sounds still reached my ears.
“Oh, come now, Claire. Why be shy about this? You were once a mated woman; surely you have been intimate before. Are you afraid of this?”
Lucien’s voice held a teasing tone as he pulled my hands away, drawing me into his embrace.
I struggled desperately, my back pressed against the door, feeling his warmth seep through my skin, mixing with the sounds from the TV, nearly suffocating me.
Suddenly, a piercing scream shattered the silence.
“Ah! Let me go! I’m the future Luna of the Sterling Moon pack! This is considered an act of war, you filthy rogues!”
At the voice, my eyes flew open.
This wasn’t some random porno that Lucien was streaming on the screen. It was a live broadcast!
The person being sexually tormented on screen was Breanne!
“Oh my Goddess!” I gasped at the realization. “Lucien, did you set this up?” I stared at him in disbelief, my words stumbling over each other.
“This is the price she will pay for insulting a trusted member of my pack, Bart. Now she is learning of the consequences when you go against me and mine!”
A dark shadow cast over Lucien’s focused features as he watched the screen with intense interest.
Breanne’s screams echoed.
I indeed hated Breanne, but such a cruel method made me shiver.
I would never wish this upon another woman. My mind flashes back to the night this very thing almost happened to me.
“Lucien, isn’t this too much of a price? This can ruin her. Bart was cleared of the scandal the very day it happened.” My voice trembled.
Lucien only sneered, “Looks like you’re still too soft-hearted, Claire. This is why people take advantage of you easily.”
“Lucien, there are more people in there?”
I noticed that there was more than one person on the screen.
“I am glad you asked, Claire. There are eight rogues in total. They’re the ones who came after you last time. The very ones that this cold-hearted b***h paid to defile you that night with Liam’s protection over her actions.” Lucien sneered in disgust.
“Do you remember how he scoffed it away as if it meant nothing? Do you remember how it wasn’t a big deal that she almost ruined you, his own f*****g true mate. He didn’t care, so why do you? If it weren’t for me, that would have been your fate.”
There was so much anger in Lucien’s words; each one landed its mark.
I felt the surge of desire for vengeance creep in.
I was also confused; I thought those eight rogues had died. Did Lucien cover it up and keep them hidden for just this purpose in the future?
I wanted to follow the thought down the rabbit hole of many ponderings.
“Lucien, so you were the one who saved me that night?” I sprang to my feet, suddenly understanding his implication, staring at him in shock.
Lucien’s gaze flickered, but he didn’t answer. Yet I saw the truth in his expression.
At that moment, the faint scent of pine from him enveloped me, and I was startled as countless memories flashed in my mind.
Those seemingly coincidental events, those timely rescues, all were Lucien’s doing?
Before I could ask for more details, a loud, aggressive knocking echoed through the room.
“Lucien, open the door!” Liam’s furious roar pierced through the door.
“Alpha Sterling, please leave immediately! Alpha Thorne is resting!” John’s anxious voice followed, trying to persuade him.
“Get out of the way! My mate is in there! I can smell her scent from that room. I have to go in!” Liam shouted louder, banging on the door with increasing urgency, nearly breaking it down. “Lucien! If you’re a real Alpha, you would open the door and face me like one! Open up NOW!”
My scalp tingled.
How did Liam find me?
Didn’t he take Queenie back to the Sterling Moon pack for dinner with the Alpha family?
Or, had Liam been secretly following me all along?
Lucien’s expression darkened dangerously as he strode forward and yanked the door open.
“Lucien! You prick! I f*****g knew it!” Liam exploded like a lit fuse. “I knew you had ulterior motives picking
Claire up after work! You’re worse than an animal!”
“Claire! Claire! Don’t be afraid! I’m here to save you!” He immediately shouted into the room, as if I were in mortal danger. “As long as I’m here, no one can hurt you anymore!”
Inside the room, I heard his calls and shook my head with a bitter smile. No one could hurt me with him there?
Lucien leaned casually against the doorframe, his icy gaze sweeping over Liam’s contorted face with smug ease.
“Oh, Liam Sterling, weren’t you just with another she-wolf earlier? You really get around. But here is the thing you should really be worried about: where is your mistress? Have you seen her lately?” Lucien was toying with him, and I didn’t look over to know the excitement Lucien would be reflecting through his features, the longer he baited Liam.
At that moment, the TV in the room erupted with a woman’s heart-wrenching screams.
“Please! Please have mercy on me! No more!”
I looked over and saw Liam’s body tremble, pushed by an invisible force, as he needed to confirm the voice he had heard; he rushed into the room.
“Lucien Thorne!” A roar like none I have ever heard from Liam, “What have you done to Breanne?”
Lucien pursed his lips indifferently, even shrugging innocently.
“It’s your mistress who got drunk at a bar and was picked up by someone. What does that have to do with me?”
“Stop calling her my mistress, that is just a vicious rumour.” Liam defended them both.
Lucien responded with a dark chuckle. “If you say so.”
“Where is she, you bastard?” Liam was losing control completely, and like a wild beast, he lunged forward with his wolf fighting to surface.
He gripped Lucien’s throat, his knuckles turning white from the force.
“Lucien, are you trying to force the Sterling Moon pack into a war with the Crown of Thornes pack?”
