“The Sterling Moon pack? You speak to me as though going to war with an average-ranked pack now on a downward spiral with scandal after scandal should matter to me.” Lucien sneered,
“Here is the cold, hard truth you should probably learn quickly, future Alpha Liam: you’ve never mattered to me.”
The insult landed.
Liam trembled with rage, nearly jabbing his finger at Lucien’s nose.
“The Sterling Mooon pack may not be as powerful as the Crown of Thornes pack, but we’re not some vermin for you to crush. As for what you did to Breanne, I won’t let you get away with it!”
Lucien waved Liam’s hand away dismissively, his disdain almost overflowing.
“Correction. I did nothing. Breanne got drunk at a bar and was willingly picked up by those men. The entire journey from the bar to the hotel was under surveillance. It has nothing to do with me. Perhaps if your mistress weren’t a greedy w***e, she wouldn’t be on the television right now.”
“Then why do you have footage of it? What’s your explanation?” Liam’s eyes widened in shock as he pointed at the screen.
“Claire and I came back here to take a nap. We decided to turn on the TV, and it was playing. I was surprised too. Don’t believe me?” He casually glanced at me, a knowing smile playing on his lips. “Claire can testify.”
My heart sank.
Only then did I realize Lucien’s true intention for bringing me here.
He somehow knew Liam would follow us here; this was why he was shirtless with me in a hotel room.
He technically did turn on the television, and Breanne was already playing on the screen. Everything was brilliantly calculated.
Liam instinctively looked at me, his expression complex and unreadable.
The horrifying images continued to play on the screen, the volume of her combination of screams and moans seemed to rise, despite no one increasing it from the remote.
Liam looked at the screen once more, and then staggered out of the room, claiming that he would find the truth from the front desk.
It didn’t take long for us to hear Liam’s shouting coming back down the hallway, this time with security.
It was the room at the opposite end of the hall from us.
I followed the sound and found the room.
The sight was overwhelming. Even though I had braced myself for what I would see, the naked brutality and chaos made me gasp, my stomach churning.
Torn clothing and crumpled tissues littered the floor, and eight muscular rogues were viciously entangled with a barely conscious Breanne on the bed.
Her face was pale, foam at her mouth, and she was completely unresponsive, her body twitching involuntarily.
“Animals! You bunch of animals!”
Liam’s eyes were bloodshot as he yelled, pushing past the rogues in his way. He quickly stripped off his suit jacket and wrapped it around Breanne’s battered and used body.
The hotel manager came rushing into the room, with the front desk trailing behind.
They turned away in instant disgust at the sight.
“Sir, we checked the records and have confirmed that a Ms. Breanne Telder in fact booked this room. She came in last night with these men; there was no struggle, and she was the one booking their room to share.”
Again, I watched as Liam’s heart shattered.
This wasn’t the news he was hoping for.
Everything was proof that Breanne seemingly wanted a broadcasted orgy with the same rogues she once paid.
There was no way that Liam could call the police on these men. Not to mention, he couldn’t risk the scandal, as, again, even if Liam didn’t want to believe it, the evidence would cause a bigger scandal for the Sterling Moon pack.
I found myself wondering how long Alpha Henry and Luna Stephanie would tolerate Breanne causing so many scandals.
This had to be affecting their ranking among pack alliances. You didn’t need to be an Alpha or politician to understand how Breanne was affecting their reputation by association.
Just then, Breanne seemed to awaken, her dazed eyes finally focusing on Liam.
“Liam, I missed you. I tried calling you to join our fun, but you hate me now. Can I have a hug? Liam.”
She reached out her slender arms, wrapping them around his neck.
“Breanne! Snap out of it!” Liam was so embarrassed by Breanne’s words and behaviour, he looked like he wanted to find a hole to hide in, his voice harsh.
But Breanne seemed to have lost all sense of reality. She nuzzled against him like a kitten.
“Liam, you make me so horny. I’m glad I got rid of that prude b***h, now you’re all mine!”
Her soft, flirtatious tone made everyone in the room cringe.
My gaze pierced through Liam, filled with disbelief and disdain.
“Claire! She’s still drunk, he doesn’t know what she’s saying!” he pleaded desperately.
However, Breanne seemed to react to the name, suddenly lifting her head and giggling, her fingers pointing randomly.
“Claire, you’re boring and stiff in bed. Liam used to tell me that all the time, ha-ha! He hated having someone as dull as you as his true mate.”
“Breanne!” I heard Liam growl with anger, which was followed by the undeniable sound of a slap to her face.
“Enough!”
I could no longer bear it.
I turned on my heel and rushed out, feeling as if I had swallowed a fishbone.
I knew I wasn’t as fun and wild as some, but to speak so poorly of me, when it was he who sought to dim my light and turn me into a boring homebody. Jackass!
The sound of Breanne’s whimpers followed me down the hall and towards the elevators. I had had enough for one day.
As I waited at the elevators, a part of me was hurt by the fact that Liam didn’t come after me.
What Breanne said would have sparked a response from him, right? Should he not be rushing over here to try and explain?
Perhaps those were Liam’s honest thoughts.
Then why was he still pursuing me if he believed I was a boring prude who was stiff in bed? If he hated someone as dull as me as his mate, then why did he ask me to accept him back?
But if those weren’t his feelings, then why wasn’t he explaining them?
Instead, Liam chose to stay in that filthy, disgusting hotel room, holding onto a woman who seemingly signed herself up to be used and abused.
Of course, I knew the truth, but regardless of that, everyone back there didn’t.
The elevator door chimed and opened as I stepped in, Liam’s Gamma, Soren, rushed out.
We locked eyes briefly, and I could see his features switch to panic. He was looking to explain, but it was needed. I already knew what I needed to know.
I ignored him and stepped inside the steel box, looking to escape this situation as quickly as possible.
