"Fairfax still doesn't know her true identity," Rudolf mused. "If Mr. Hoggart steps in and Ms. Hoggart keeps pushing, this divorce might actually happen."
The entire Yelchin family had always looked down on Starla, never imagining she was the heiress to the Hoggart Group, the single most powerful conglomerate in all of Yoran Country—a group that held the economic lifeblood of nearly the entire nation in its hands. To top it off, her father, Elmer, held a high noble title within the Yoran royal court. When the Yelchins finally learned the truth, their regret would be unimaginable.
"That girl is clever," Herbert said. "She and her brother have probably already plotted how to corner Fairfax from both sides."
Rudolf remained silent, a sense of anticipation building within him. This was going to be quite a show. Fairfax was far too confident, too arrogant, still believing that Starla would never truly leave him.
...
Just as Herbert predicted, Starla was already setting her plan in motion. The moment he left, she got a call from Yardley, who confirmed he had begun his move against the Yelchin Group.
After the call, Starla turned to Garret. “Tell the lawyer to prepare the lawsuit.”
So, he didn't want a divorce? Then he could have a taste of what it felt like to be overwhelmed from all sides.
“Right away,” Garret confirmed. Then, she added, “I have the complete file on that doctor. She’s taken a lot of bribes over the years and has even performed illegal abortions for wealthy families. She’ll do any dirty work for the right price.”
She was referring to the doctor Harriet had paid off to deal with Starla. In the hospital room, the doctor had claimed Starla shouldn't eat rich foods after her miscarriage, but then she turned around and told Fairfax that Starla had never been pregnant at all. It was obvious she’d been bought by Harriet. It seemed money was her only principle.
“How is that bitch holding up in there?” Darleen asked, her voice sharp with contempt. Starla had poisoned her son, yet her son was still taking it out on her. She couldn’t fathom what kind of spell Starla had cast on him to make him so blind.
“I’ll check in a bit,” Xenia said with a smirk. “Don’t worry, I’ve already made the arrangements. She probably didn’t get a wink of sleep last night.”
The thought of Starla suffering filled her with glee. She had wanted to put that woman in her place for a long time, even back when Starla was meek and obedient. Now, finally, she had her chance. Yesterday, Brinley had mentioned that even Fairfax wanted Starla to be taught a lesson. Well, a lesson was exactly what she would get.
Darleen’s mood lifted at the thought of Starla’s torment. “It’s about time she learned her place. Look at the chaos she’s caused lately.”
