A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 185

Herbert's expression darkened instantly. Rudolf was equally shocked; no one had ever dared to cause such a scene at the Farley Group.

"Who do you think you are?" Xenia spat at the receptionist, her voice dripping with venom. "Just because you work in a fancy skyscraper, you've forgotten you're nothing but the help at the door, haven't you?"

The receptionist, seeing Herbert, simply held her cheek and stared at Xenia without a word.

"And you can tell Herbert that I, Xenia, have never brought a meal to anyone in my life! He'd better not be ungrateful!"

"No need for her to tell me," a cold voice cut in. "I heard every word."

Xenia's body went rigid. She spun around in fury, only to meet Herbert's dangerously intense gaze. It was a look she often saw in her brother's eyes, but coming from Herbert, it sent a chill down her spine.

"Herbert?" she stammered, her face suddenly burning with embarrassment. Her mother's warnings to be gentle echoed in her mind.

"Your receptionist was being impossible!" Xenia whined, stamping her foot and trying to play the victim. "I asked nicely, but she just wouldn't let me in."

"Mr. Farley, that's not—"

"Not what? Shut your mouth!" Xenia shot the receptionist a vicious glare, silencing her.

She turned back to Herbert, her voice softening into a seductive purr. "Herbert, I brought you lunch. All your favorites. Let's go up to your office, shall we?"

Her eyes grew tender as she looked at the handsome man before her, and she reached out to take his arm.

But Rudolf stepped forward, blocking her path with a stern expression.

"What are you doing? Let go of me! Let go!"

Ignoring her struggles, the guards dragged her toward the exit. The insulated container slipped from her grasp and crashed to the floor, the lid flying off and scattering food across the polished marble. The sight pushed her over the edge.

"Let go of me!" she screamed.

How could Herbert do this to her? Her brother considered him a friend, and their families were in the middle of marriage negotiations! At the very least, she was practically his fiancée. One day, she would be his wife!

Her thoughts were cut short as the guards dragged her outside and unceremoniously dumped her on the pavement. A sharp pain shot through her palms as they hit the ground, but it was nothing compared to the feeling of her pride being crushed and thrown away by Herbert.

“Aaaah!” She let out a furious scream.
