"If it was a natural death, why would her people take the body?" Garret pressed.
Starla fell silent. Why indeed? She closed her eyes for a moment, thinking of that twisted family.
"Should we investigate?" Garret asked.
"Yes, but don't move on any evidence just yet. Let's wait until after my divorce from Fairfax is final."
She didn't want any more complications this time. Even if she intended to expose Brinley's true colors to Fairfax, it could wait until after the divorce was settled. Her goal wasn't to make Fairfax see the truth about Brinley; it was simply to make Brinley pay for everything she had done.
"Understood," Garret said, making a mental note of her instructions. "There's one more thing."
"What is it?"
"While the child was at that villa, a man paid a visit."
"A man? The doctor?"
Garret shook his head. "He didn't look like a doctor."
Not a doctor? Who else could it be? Surely Brinley wouldn't hire a male nurse or nanny for her infant.
Garret pulled out his phone, tapped the screen a few times, and handed it to Starla. "This man. He was driving a Maserati."
Starla looked at the photo. It showed a man in a blue mask about to get into a Maserati parked in front of a villa. Though his face was mostly covered, she instantly recognized his eyes.
"It's him?"
"We checked," Garret said. "This man also frequented the hospital where Brinley had her prenatal check-ups."
"During the same time frame?" Starla asked, handing the phone back.
Felix and Brinley? Two people who should have had no reason to interact. Their connection seemed far from simple.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Yardley. Starla answered, her voice soft. "Bro."
"You sound like you're in a good mood," Yardley remarked from the other end.
"Of course I am," she replied cheerfully.
Fairfax's feelings for her had finally shattered, and the mystery surrounding Brinley was becoming more and more intriguing.
"The largest blue diamond is going up for auction in Marina City," Yardley said. "I need you to acquire it for me."
"Since when do you collect jewelry?" she teased.
A blue diamond. She'd only heard rumors of their astronomical value, with even a small one fetching tens of millions. But she had never been particularly interested in jewels.
