Things were just as Starla imagined. While she was able to enjoy a peaceful meal, every member of the Yelchin family was on the verge of a meltdown. Especially Fairfax.
After a full morning of the scandal exploding online, Gabriel had to report the bad news. "Sir, we can't suppress the reports about Brinley."
Fairfax’s face instantly hardened. His sharp, hawk-like eyes shot daggers at Gabriel. "What did you say?"
What did he mean, they couldn't suppress it? Since when was there anything in Marina City that the Yelchin family couldn't handle?
Gabriel understood his boss's disbelief. "We've managed to shut down all the local accounts in Marina City, but the posts gaining the most traction are coming from IP addresses overseas. We've tried contacting them, but they're ignoring us completely."
Gabriel’s tone was grim. It wasn't just Fairfax who was angry; Gabriel was furious too. In all his years working for Fairfax, he had handled countless crises, but this was the first time anyone had so blatantly disregarded the power of the Yelchin Group.
"To be blunt," Gabriel continued, "your wife is serious this time, and she came prepared."
By wife, he meant Starla. By leaking the news of her marriage to Fairfax, she had put Brinley in the worst possible position. This was a direct attack.
At his words, the hand Fairfax held his cigarette with paused, and the light in his eyes grew colder by the second. "Still no sign of her?"
When asked about Starla's whereabouts, Gabriel’s expression grew even more solemn. He shook his head. "Nothing." Then he added, "She never went back to Maple Heights, and she's not at Ms. Mercer's place either."
Maple Heights. She had bought that house just two months after Faraday died. Had she been planning to leave him even back then? If so, this divorce she was filing for… was serious?
"Cut the crap and get to the point." The point was finding out where Starla was. Tanya was refusing to cooperate, and Caden was the only one in his circle who was close to Starla.
"The second I asked where she was, she asked if you put me up to it," Caden lied smoothly. "Even when I said no, she didn't believe me and just hung up."
Fairfax’s breathing grew ragged again. She had even hung up on Caden. She was truly trying to cut ties with everyone associated with him.
"Fairfax, you really pushed her over the edge this time," Caden added. "This isn't something you can fix easily."
Fairfax pinched the bridge of his nose, a headache beginning to throb. Caden was still rambling on the other end of the line, and Fairfax, out of patience, simply hung up.
