Darleen felt her vision start to blacken with rage.

“And I don’t recall ‘insulting people’ being one of the Yelchin family rules, do you?” Starla continued. “At your age, you should really learn to control your tongue and your behavior. If you can’t, then of course, extraordinary measures are needed to help you learn your lesson.”

The phrase ‘learn your lesson’ was the final straw. Darleen spun towards Fairfax, shrieking, “Are you just going to stand there and watch her hit me?”

That damned bitch! How dare she have her own mother-in-law struck, and right in front of her husband? Did Herbert really give her that much courage? If they didn’t separate him from Starla, there was no telling how long this woman would use his power to terrorize the Yelchin family.

When Fairfax didn’t respond, Darleen’s voice rose even higher. “Fairfax!”

“Was I the one who hit you?” he finally asked.

Darleen’s head snapped back to Starla, her eyes burning with a murderous hatred. She looked as if she wanted to tear her to pieces.

Starla simply raised an eyebrow. “My hands are clean.”

Darleen was speechless.

“You may not have done it yourself, but the person you brought here did!” Xenia exploded. “How is that any different from you disrespecting your mother-in-law?”

Xenia was furious too. This wretched woman claimed to be a Yelchin, forcing her way back into the house, yet she showed no respect for her elders. What kind of family member did she think she was?

“They were just following your mother’s rules,” Starla said coolly. “Is there a problem with that?”

Darleen, Xenia, and Brinley all stared at him in stunned silence. For a moment, none of them could believe what they had just heard.

Especially Darleen. She looked at Fairfax, gasping for air. “What did you say? What’s the big deal?”

“Weren’t those the properties I gave her in the first place?”

Fairfax’s words shut them all up instantly. But Darleen quickly recovered.

“Not all of them were from you!”

“Fine. Tell me what you lost, and I’ll pay you back,” Fairfax offered, his patience clearly gone.
