Brinley’s expression was just as grim. The moment she heard Xenia mention the food waiting for them back home, she wanted to call her mother and tell her to get back from Yoran Country immediately. But with Darleen and Xenia there, she couldn't make a call, so she sent Harriet a long text instead, detailing how Starla was lording her power over them and making her life miserable.

Normally, Harriet’s fiercely protective nature would have sent her storming back to confront Starla. But today, the message went unanswered for a long, long time.

Only as their car approached the city did Harriet’s reply finally come through. It was a single, stark sentence: [If you have to, just apologize to Starla for now. Get through this first!]

Brinley froze when she read the text. She couldn’t believe her own mother would say something like that. She even wondered if Clyde had sent the message for her.

Apologize to Starla? What was that supposed to mean? Was it because her mother was having trouble dealing with her own problems in Yoran Country? Even so, she couldn't possibly expect her to bow down to Starla. That bitch! Did she even deserve it?

Feeling breathless, Brinley shoved her phone back into her purse, not daring to let Darleen or Xenia see the message.

Back at the Yelchin family estate.

Garret finished a call and approached Starla respectfully. “Miss, there’s a maid from the Seabrook family at the gate named Sally. She says she’s here to take care of Brinley.”

Sally, from the Seabrooks? That must be the same maid who had looked after Brinley at the hospital. If so, the Seabrook family was likely aware of Brinley's past schemes. Why else would they send Sally now?

“Let her in,” Starla said.

Garret hesitated. “But…”
