A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 394

The words 'together' and 'united' sounded like a twisted mockery coming from Starla's lips. Darleen's face was now completely white. She spun around, looking at Starla, and managed to choke out, "No, they don't need to come down!"

"Why not?" Starla asked, her eyes glinting. "Looking at you, one might think there's something wrong with this meal."

Garret had already sent someone to fetch the others.

Consumed by guilt, Darleen began to tremble. "No, there's nothing wrong! I just thought... they went to bed so late last night, we should let them sleep in. It's fine if they don't eat, really..."

Her voice trailed off, her desperation palpable.

Starla chuckled. "How can it be fine? You haven't had a proper meal in two days. Of course it matters."

Darleen's mind reeled. So, she knew they had been starving? Then this...! She glanced at Starla's untouched breakfast. In that moment, Darleen felt so terrified she could have collapsed.

Soon, Xenia, Fairfax, and Brinley were brought downstairs.

When Xenia and Brinley saw the lavish breakfast spread, their eyes lit up. They looked at Starla in disbelief. Had this woman finally come to her senses? She must have finally realized the Yelchin family was not a force to be trifled with. A flicker of smug satisfaction crossed their faces.

Fairfax, however, frowned. Unlike the others, and especially after last night's events, he didn't believe for a second that Starla was genuinely offering them a meal. Her sudden change in behavior set off alarm bells in his mind. He remained grim-faced and silent.
