A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 419

When Starla had first moved in, Darleen had planned to give her this exact same task to establish her dominance—scrubbing the carpets inch by inch with a small brush and hand-washing all the heavy curtains.

But Fairfax had been fiercely protective back then, and Starla had refused to bend. She hadn't lifted a finger. Now, the tables had turned, and Starla was demanding they do the work. How dare she?

Seeing the thunderous expressions on their faces, Starla merely smiled. “What’s the matter? Don’t want to do it? I’m afraid that’s not an option.”

Darleen felt a wave of dizziness wash over her.

“By the way,” Starla added casually, “Brinley has already eaten. Sally did her share of the work for her.”

For a fleeting moment, Darleen and Xenia considered asking Sally for help, but the thought died as quickly as it came. They knew Harriet hadn’t sent Sally here to be their servant; she was here exclusively to care for Brinley.

“We’re starving,” Darleen said, her voice strained. “Can’t we eat first?”

“You spent your day visiting the Farleys and running to Herbert,” Starla said, her eyes cold. “I know exactly what you said. When you scheme against me, you aim to destroy me completely. Did you really think I would show you any mercy now?”

Herbert was not a man to be trifled with. If their plan had succeeded, she would have been torn to pieces.

But things hadn't gone the way they expected.

Starla watched them with a serene smile, a look that made their chests tighten with dread. It was clear she had found the perfect task to torment them with today.
