Fairfax let out a soft, chilling laugh. "No hurry."

He wasn't finished with her yet.

"The night is cold and long," he said slowly. "We'll take our time."

Gabriel understood. All the frustration and rage Fairfax had been forced to suppress was about to be unleashed.

Moments later, Felix was hauled out of the restaurant. He had been trying to call for backup, but Fairfax's men had seized him before he could make the call. They stormed in and dragged him out like a sack of potatoes.

"What are you doing?" Felix struggled, yelling. "Let go of me! Let me go! Do you have any idea who I am?"

He was panicking. Although he had been at odds with the Yelchin family for years, they had never clashed so directly, so violently.

From inside the car, Brinley watched them drag him out, and the cold sweat that had been trickling down her back now soaked through her clothes. She grabbed Sally's arm, her voice trembling. "Sally, what do I do? Fairfax must know I'm in the car."

Forgetting their earlier argument, she was desperate for anyone to tell her what to do. Her mind was a chaotic mess.

Sally was terrified too. She knew she never should have come out with Brinley tonight. Now that Brinley and Felix's affair was exposed, Fairfax would undoubtedly start digging. And once he did, every little secret would be unearthed. When that happened, she wouldn't be able to escape either.

"Mr. Fowler was right," Sally said, her voice strained. "You never should have called him tonight."

Starla already had the entire Yelchin estate on lockdown, with her people watching every entrance. They were her eyes and ears. Even if Fairfax hadn't seen them himself, Starla's network would have surely reported it. Exposure was inevitable.

"Why shouldn't the Yelchins know about us?" Brinley hissed, a flash of defiance in her eyes. "The family is in shambles anyway. What is there to be afraid of?"
