Jordan had kicked her, hard. Twice. Then he turned to Ethan and said Isabella was never allowed back at the Lane house. He wanted her to change her last name back to George. She was done being a Lane. According to Jordan, the Lane family didn’t have a daughter as cruel as her.
The only reason she survived that day was because Jordan held back for Ethan’s sake. Still, those kicks were enough to leave her stuck in bed for weeks. Jordan hadn’t gone easy on her.
After that, she was banned from the Lane family, and Ethan backed Jordan up, telling her to go back to being George, her real surname. By the time Isabella died, she wasn’t Isabella Lane anymore. She was Isabella George.
That was it, she realized. The name change. It was the one thing she’d missed before. Now, starting over, she knew what she had to do. She needed to go back to being George. She didn’t want the Lane name anymore.
The Lane family never liked her anyway. Changing her name would probably make Jordan happier. He hated her as it was, probably because he thought she might come after his inheritance. She wasn’t going to fight for things that were never hers.
“What did that fake bitch say to you?” Laura’s voice broke through Isabella’s thoughts, pulling her back from the memories.
“She wanted me to go shopping with her,” Isabella said, her voice flat. “Jordan’s going to that business event tonight, and obviously, his wife has to be there with him.”
“Natalie said she needed to buy a new dress and some jewelry for tonight, but honestly, she already has so much. I told her she didn’t need any more.”
Isabella paused for a moment. “I don’t trust her. I think she has some other plan.”
“So I turned her down. I don’t want to be alone with her. If anything goes wrong, she’ll just blame me.”
“It’s not like she’s actually short on dresses or jewelry. Even if you ignore the stuff she already had, she and Jordan kept all my wedding gifts. I didn’t bring a single piece of jewelry with me to the Adams family.”
The only jewelry she had now were two cheap sets from Cynthia.
Cynthia didn’t have much jewelry herself. She did own a couple of nicer pieces, but she wouldn’t dare give them to Isabella. She was too afraid of upsetting Jordan or Natalie.
The fancy jewelry Cynthia wore for events with Jackson wasn’t even hers. She just borrowed it from the family collection, signed it out for the night, and gave it right back when she got home.
