After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 191

“Jesse, what brings you here? And by yourself?” Isabella’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as she looked at him.

Jesse answered easily. “It started raining and the temperature just dropped. I was passing by and thought I’d come in for a bit.”

“Is it really raining outside?” Isabella and Laura exchanged a glance. Neither of them had noticed. It was already late spring, so it shouldn’t be too cold, but a sudden rainstorm could definitely bring the temperature down a little.

“Yeah, it’s coming down. Feels pretty chilly out there.”

While he spoke, Jesse picked up the serving chopsticks and started adding food to Laura’s plate. He knew exactly what she liked, picking out her favorites with careful attention. Half the dishes on the table seemed to be Laura’s favorites and the other half were Isabella’s.

Even with everything simmering together in the hotpot, Jesse was able to fish out exactly what Laura liked best. It was obvious he’d put in a lot of effort to get close to her.

Watching him, Isabella suddenly remembered how Ethan had pursued her. He had figured out all her preferences, always giving her what she liked, treating her with so much care. If someone gave her a hard time, he’d stand up for her. Whenever she got into trouble, he’d help her fix everything.

With his unfairly handsome face and the way he put his heart on the line for her, she hadn’t stood a chance. She’d fallen right into the trap he’d set and ended up stuck there for a lifetime.

Well, at least that’s how it felt in another lifetime.

Guys with wealth and power like theirs never gave up once they picked a target. Most people just couldn’t resist that kind of focused attention. Laura knew there was a huge gap between her and Jesse, so she tried not to even consider him. Was all his effort just wasted?
