Isabella closed the door behind her, went back to her bedroom, and snapped a photo of the gold bars sitting on her pillow. She sent it to Ethan without a word. Then she took another picture of the gold jewelry scattered across her nightstand and sent that too.
After sending the photos, she called him. Ethan picked up almost right away.
“Ethan, I woke up this morning and found a pile of gold bars on my pillow. I checked, they’re real. Not fake or anything.”
“My nightstand is covered in gold jewelry too. All of it’s real, and honestly, it looks gorgeous in the sunlight.”
“I have no clue where any of this came from. I didn’t sleepwalk and rob a bank, did I? Or maybe I found a gold mine in my dreams?” She paused, then muttered to herself, “Even if I did, gold mines don’t just spit out shiny bars and jewelry overnight.”
Ethan was quiet for a moment before saying, “All of that is from my safe.”
Isabella blinked, totally confused. “Wait. Are you saying I sleepwalked into your room, cracked open your safe, and you didn’t even notice?”
Ethan laughed. “Why do you always think you were sleepwalking? I’m telling you, I took it out myself. Nothing sneaky. I just brought it over.”
She was still lost. “I never went into your room. How could I have taken your stuff? I get why you’d have gold bars, sure, but why so much jewelry?”
Ethan went quiet again.
