"Keith knows the three of us are close, so he asked me to check in on you. Jordan, if the baby isn't developing well, maybe it's best to let it go. You and Natalie are still young. She can take care of herself, and you two can try again when she's ready."
"And after this, you both should think about getting some genetic testing. Just to make sure there isn't something going on that could have caused the miscarriage."
Jordan sat on the other end of the phone, completely stunned. Then his shock turned to anger. "Ethan, where did you even hear that? Who said our baby has problems?"
"Natalie and I are both healthy! Why would there be anything wrong with our genes?"
"Keith's sister must have misunderstood. There's no way. You all have it wrong, you must. Or are you just jealous I'm going to be a dad and saying this to mess with me?"
He just couldn't accept it.
Natalie had never said the baby was in danger. She only mentioned there was a little spotting and the doctor said her progesterone was low, nothing serious, just needed a supplement. He'd even planned to go with her to the hospital tomorrow so she could be admitted for bed rest.
Ethan just sighed. "Jealous? Of what? Being a dad? If I wanted to be a dad, my wife could be pregnant by tomorrow."
"I'm just trying to look out for you. But... I guess Natalie hasn't told you everything, huh?" Ethan finally realized.
Jordan's reaction, the way he lashed out, made it obvious he was in denial. Natalie must not have told him the truth.
"You should talk to Natalie again. Ask her exactly what the doctor said. And maybe go to a couple more hospitals, just to be sure. Sometimes the equipment isn't great, and mistakes happen. Just check things out in a few different places."
Jordan hung up.
