Isabella picked out a kite that caught her eye and asked the vendor how much it cost. She pulled out her phone, ready to pay.
“I’ll get it,” Harold said, quick as ever. He’d already scanned his phone before Isabella could even protest.
“Mr. Carter, let me pay you back,” Isabella said, fishing a few bills from her pocket.
Harold just grinned. “It’s only a few bucks. Seriously, don’t worry about it.”
Seeing he wouldn’t take the money, Isabella gave in with a light sigh. “Alright, then. I’ll have to treat you both to dinner sometime.”
“Sounds great,” Harold said, all smiles.
Isabella tried to fly the kite, but it just wouldn’t catch the wind. No matter how she ran or tugged at the string, it kept dipping back down. Finally, Harold and Jesse stepped in to help, showing her how to get it up in the air. With their help, the kite finally soared high above them, dancing in the breeze.
Harold ended up renting a big umbrella and settled down underneath, keeping an eye on Isabella as she laughed and chased after her kite. He looked over at Jesse and shook his head. “Isabella’s such a good person. I still can’t believe Ethan could treat her like that, using her feelings.”
Jesse gave him a steady look. “Whatever Ethan’s doing, they’re still married. He trusts us, Harold. We’ve all been friends for years. You should keep some space from Isabella. Don’t give anyone a reason to talk. It’s not worth risking your friendship with Ethan over a misunderstanding.”
