"You spend so much of my money. Can't you at least try to be a little sweet to me?" Ethan grumbled, feeling like he deserved more for everything he paid.
"Come on, Ethan, let's get one thing straight," Isabella shot back. "The money you give me is my allowance. It's a reward for helping you out, not for coaxing you to take your medicine. If you want that kind of special treatment, you'll have to pay extra."
Ethan couldn't help but laugh. He reached over and flicked her forehead playfully. Annoyed, she jumped up and flicked his head in return.
He didn't even flinch. Her flick was nothing compared to the time she bit him. That had actually hurt.
"I'm just messing with you," he said, grinning. "I'm healthy as ever. I’m not about to catch a cold."
She grinned back. "Yeah, I figured. You're tough. You never get sick."
They strolled back toward the beachfront villas, the conversation light and easy.
"Living by the sea isn't as great as it sounds," Isabella complained. "The sea breeze is always salty."
"It's not like you have to be here all the time," Ethan replied. "We just come here for a few days when we're on vacation."
