Even though Ethan was her friend too, Natalie knew she had chosen Jordan, and that meant she needed to keep her distance. Jordan had made it clear that when he wasn’t around, he didn’t want her meeting up with Ethan. He’d even had a talk with Ethan, just to spell it out. Natalie was his wife now, so Ethan needed to respect their boundaries and stop acting like nothing had changed.
Natalie got the message. After that, she almost never brought up Ethan in front of Jordan.
But after Ethan became Jordan’s brother-in-law, everything shifted. No matter how much Jordan disliked Isabella, she was still the adopted daughter of the Lane family. She’d grown up in that house, her mother was still Mrs. Lane, and it was only natural for Isabella to come home sometimes. As her husband, Ethan would come with her. Jordan really had no say in it.
“I’ll call Isabella and see where she is,” Natalie said as she pulled out her phone.
She tried dialing, but the call didn’t go through.
“Why can’t I reach Isabella?” she wondered out loud.
“Is her phone off?” Jordan asked.
“It says unavailable. Did she block my number?” Natalie frowned, feeling a little stung.
Jordan’s expression darkened. “Don’t bother calling again. Ethan already had her stuff thrown out. She’s probably gone for good, and if she guessed we’d try to reach her, blocking our numbers wouldn’t be a surprise.”
“Let’s just leave her alone. Whatever’s going on between her and Ethan, that’s their business. We don’t need to get involved.”
Natalie sighed but didn’t look convinced. “Still, we’re her family. At least we should pretend to care, right?”
