My hands instinctively gripped his shirt as his kiss deepened, his tongue sliding against mine in a hungry, claiming kiss that stole all reason from my mind.
He walked me backward until my back met the edge of the desk, his hands gripping my hips like he was anchoring himself to reality. I was melting into him. I didn’t care. I didn’t want to care. Because the way he was kissing me, the fire, the desperation, it was like he needed me to know I was his. That no matter what, no one else mattered.
My hands curled around his neck just as the door clicked open.
“Damon.” I whispered, wanting to pull away. Damon doesn’t care.
I froze.
Damon didn’t even flinch.
He kissed me harder.
“Damon,” I hissed under my breath, trying to push him back, but he was already leaning in once more, deliberately brushing his lips against mine as he whispered, “Don’t pull away. Not yet. Just trust me.”
He kissed me once again. He’s kissed far more gentle before he pulled away, wrapping his arm around my waist.
My heart thundered as we turned to face the figure in the doorway.
Giovanni.
Calm, collected, dressed in charcoal gray, and holding a file folder in his hand as if he hadn’t just walked in on something wildly inappropriate.
But I saw it.
That flicker in his eyes.
That crack in his composure.
Just for a moment.
He stepped forward, setting the file on Damon’s desk.
“No,” Damon said, his voice like steel. “This is personal. Always has been. Had it been business, you wouldn’t have interfered in something that should have been between me and your daughter.”
Giovanni turned to me; his smile now laced with warning. “Enjoy the desk while it lasts.”
Then he walked out.
The silence he left behind was deafening.
Damon exhaled slowly, rubbing his thumb along my waist. “Told you. It’s only ever going to be you.”
“I want to believe you, Damon.” I said, looking up at his eyes met mine and a small smile formed on his face.
“Well, it seems to me that I won’t have to keep reminding you even when you forget. But don’t worry, I’m more than open to doing so.” He smiled at me. “But I believe that the two of us right now have a few things to be taking care of, wouldn’t you agree?”
