Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 145

Giovanni:

The silence in my study was thicker than usual.

It was silent to the point where it was actually annoying. The silence was supposed to be peaceful. I could not help but find myself getting lost in more thoughts than I wanted to be.

No wind. No sound. Just the low tick of the grandfather clock and the weight of disappointment pressing down on my chest like a vice.

She was failing.

Delilah.

And though I did not want to admit it, not out loud, I knew that she was.

The one I spent years shaping. Hiding. Training. Feeding with secrets and half-truths. She was supposed to be different. She had to be different. I had carved her from the ruin of my past, created her in the shadow of everything I had lost.

And now she was faltering.

Now she was weakening. Now she could not see past Damon Lockwood and he could not even look at her. He would not even spare her a glance.

“You’re putting too much faith in her,” a voice said quietly. “For someone that you do not really know, did not see, except for the few times where she tried to play perfectionist, you are putting away too much efforts on her and way too much faith in her.”

I turned slowly, eyes narrowing on Mikhail, my most trusted Beta. He stood near the bookshelves, arms folded behind his back, gaze steady. Always the calm one, the level-headed one, but never afraid to speak what he saw.

He was the one person who could speak to me freely. The two of us grew with one another, rose from the ashes together, stood strong, stood against everything that defied us. This was not just an alpha and beta conversation, this was a friend’s conversation.

“She’s emotional,” he added. “This, this whole plan hinges on a girl who doesn’t even know who she really is.”

Mikhail didn’t answer.

I moved to the window, watching the gray clouds roll across the horizon.

“She left me,” I said. “Ran to that Omega. Let him raise my daughter. Hid her like she was a curse. I did not even know that I was going to have a daughter. She chose to hide her pregnancy, chose to play with potions to hide them.”

“She didn’t want Delilah to be you,” he said. “That is why she changed her name. She chose to hide. She chose to be with an Omega to keep herself low.”

“She didn’t want me to have Delilah,” I corrected. “She tried to erase me from that child’s life. I had to find her. Had to bring her back. Had to rename her. Tatia’s daughter died in the records. Delilah was born from the ashes. Just as Marissa burned in these ashes. She could have let them burn. I would have saved her. She would have saved herself the fuss. But now she chose to fight against me. She chose to stand against me.”
