Damon:
“She said to ask Alpha Kael why he stood there and watched her mother burn alive.”
Carter’s words sent a wave of shock through the room. I turned toward him, stunned, every muscle in my body tensing. This was the last thing that I would have expected to think that things were being played this way, to think that she was here for revenge. I knew that her presence did not make sense, but this was the last thing that I would have put in my mind.
“What the hell did you just say?” I asked, voice sharp and disbelieving.
“She was standing over Sienna’s mother’s grave,” Ethan added. “And she called her Mom. Damon, she said it so clearly, so naturally… like it wasn’t even a secret to her. It was as if she knew everything that we are oblivious of. She came and this is not the first time that she’s been here. She’s been visiting more. She’s just been doing it in the shadows, hiding.”
“That’s not possible,” I said, shaking my head. “Sienna doesn’t have a sister. Her parents would’ve told us. My father … he would’ve known. Mom would have known. We would have known about it at least. She would have had a grave. She would have had something within the pack.”
“That’s the thing,” Ethan replied, glancing toward my father who stood silently across the room. “He did know. She claims that he knew.”
I slowly turned to face him, and for the first time in my life, I saw something I never expected to see on my father’s face.”
Regret.
“You knew?” I asked, my voice quieter, but harder now. “How?”
“She was his lover long before she came to the park. When she did, she found her mate Sienna’s father. She was already pregnant. At the time. We did not reject her. We did not resent her. She told us of her enemy, of her lover. She told us of the coldness. And I was already Giovanni’s enemy. I vowed to keep her safe.
We gave her a name, a life. She was safe here for a while. She gave birth and then everything just seemed peaceful.” My father said, taking a deep breath. “He stole her. Hid her. Raised her away from us.
Taught her to hate. Fed her lies, said we stood by while her mother died in the fire… when the truth is, her mother gave her life trying to save us. Me. Evelyn. You… He burnt that villa. You and your mother were inside. He was doing it to break me. He was doing it because he knew that I would not be able to react to force me to submit. I already had a knife to my side and 1 to my stomach. I could not move even if I wanted to.”
