Kael:
The sound of urgent footsteps echoed through the pack house like a war drum. I turned away from the window just as the infirmary doors burst open.
My frowned in confusion. The sun till already hit my nostrils, but I did not expect this.
Two medics stormed inside, flanking a stretcher, on it lay a bloodied figure I recognized immediately. Delilah. Her face was pale, her chest heaving unevenly, but she was alive.
Barely.
She was not only a woman who entered our pack and chose to play us for fools, she was also his daughter, an enemy created to destroy us. He may try to create her that way, and I was not going to allow that to happen. I wasn’t going to allow her presence to stay or linger longer than necessary.
A cold fury burned in my veins. I hadn’t even realized I was moving until I was halfway down the corridor, steps fast, my shoulders squared and posture straightening with every stride.
No one shot one of mine.
Not within our territory. Not on my watch.
Not when I knew that I made a promise that I would keep this family safe no matter what it took, even if it meant risking my own life for it.
I reached the hallway where the medics were wheeling her in. A group had already begun to gather, murmuring, exchanging looks. The scent of blood in the air was sharp, metallic. And behind it…
I caught something else.
Sienna…
She was standing by her side, looking at her, only to step back just as the doctors were taking her to the surgery room.
I stepped forward again, only for a hand to reach across my chest.
“No,” she said quietly, yet firmly. “Let the doctors handle it. I know that you don’t want this to happen, but I believe that right now you’re going to need to listen to me.”
“I am not going to listen to you when it comes to a person like her. She is a traitor, a woman who entered our pack to play us.” I said, snapping. Got her. She hummed in response, giving me a gentle nod.
“I know,” she cut in, and her voice was calm, controlled. But I saw the storm behind her eyes. “But this isn’t your fight, Alpha. Not right now. Because trust me, if we did not bring her over here, she would have ended up with him and he would have played her like another fool. We are choosing to trust her, but first she needs to be treated.”
“What do you mean by mating bond?” She asked, her voice threateningly low.
“You did not know?” I asked, and she looked away from me. Her heart raced, but I could tell that this brought her more pain than she was going to let out.
“No, I did not.” She lowered her voice to just above a whisper. “But it does not change the reality. She is here because she needs help and trust me, if she’s going to try and play another game, she’s going to find me standing in front of her. And she’s not going to like the consequences that are going to follow.”
“Sienna…”
“I’m going to need to go and check on my daughter. I believe that the medics can take care of their job here.” She said, stopping me.
“I didn’t know that he did not tell you.” I said, and she hummed in response.
“The fact that he did not tell me might have been because he chose to respect me, that he chose to respect my love for him. But for me to think that everyone else might have known except for me now this is called treason. At least to the trust that I have for this family. If I can of course, call it a family.” She said, taking a deep breath as she walked away.
She looked at one of the maids before nodding, calling her over. “Make sure that everyone knows that we have a guest over at once. Two guards standing at her door and two by the window if she’s going to try and play a game. If she’s going to try and run, then we are going to find out. A nurse is going to be in her room at all times. She is not to be left alone. Am I making myself clear…?
