“Delilah…” Sienna began again, but I cut her off.
“Stop it!” I screamed. “Stop pretending! Stop playing this damn role where you’re the kind-hearted Luna who forgives and shelters her enemies. If you think that this is a way for you to earn me, I will not be earned. I am here because of one thing and one thing alone. It is an alliance that is going to end the second that he takes his last breath. I am not your friend! I am not one of you. I am the one who came here with a purpose. I am the one who was supposed to destroy you. And now I’m only here because there was a shift that happened. But trust me when I say that if it had been up to me, I would have killed all of you.”
Ethan and Carter appeared at the end of the hallway. I saw them stiffen as I raised my voice, as my power surged. I could smell their wariness. Their tension. Ready to restrain me again like I was some prisoner who didn’t know how to behave.
I turned my fury on Damon.
“You say nothing,” I said bitterly. “Nothing as I was shot outside your office. Nothing while your people lock eyes with me like I’m a loaded gun. And nothing now, when I tell you I need to go.”
His jaw clenched. “If you would allow someone to speak then I would be telling you what to do and what not to do, but you seem to want to fight. I am saying nothing because I have nothing to say to you. You are my guest and you are staying here…” “No,” I snapped, cutting him off. “I understand that you don’t care about me. And I fucking understand that don’t care about Lysandra. You let Giovanni break her and now you expect me to sit here in your pack and wait for your approval? To wait for you to feel like lifting a finger? I can’t. I won’t.”
Sienna stepped forward, hand outstretched. “We’re not trying to trap you…”
“I don’t want your pity!” I hissed. “I do not need it. I can fight my own war. I can fight my own battles.”
Her hand fell.
“I will not lose my sister because of your fear. Because you’re too busy protecting your Luna to see what’s happening beyond your walls. Giovanni is not resting. He’s not done. And the longer I stay here, the more power he gains.” I said, glaring at them. “He is going to hurt her more than he already did. He broke every single bit of her. The woman does not even eat or drink and let alone speak without flinching at the sound of the lightest sound.”
Damon narrowed his eyes. “And what do you expect to do? Walk in and rescue her yourself? He’s going to kill you the second you step inside that place. If we are being kind, do not mess that up.”
“I’ll die trying if I have to,” I spat. “And you can take your kindness and shove it elsewhere. I do not need it.”
Damon looked at me again, but this time… he didn’t stop me.
And I walked past him without another word.
Because I had made a promise to Lysandra.
And I was going to keep it.
No matter the cost.
