Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 251

Damon:

“So… you and Delilah?” I asked, once Sienna and Delilah were out of ear shots.

“Hmm?” he said, playing dumb.

“You want to try again with that fake confusion?” I crossed my arms over my chest as I looked him in the eye. He chuckled and shook his head at me.

He chuckled. “It’s early.”

“Is that what we’re calling it?” I said, raising an eyebrow. “Because as far as I can tell, the two of you will look to be a little more intimate than it being labeled too early.”

He shrugged, a hand raking through his hair. “I’m not labeling anything. But I’m also not hiding it. The two of us are enjoying ourselves. I believe it is a way for us to distress from all that pain.”

“Hm.”

“She’s not what people think,” he added after a moment, quieter now. “People don’t understand that, or maybe she doesn’t herself. She’s been used that as a weapon for far too long for her to be able to process that. I want to show her that she’s different. I want to show her that she can be herself.”

“I know that,” I replied. “But you also need to be careful and keep in mind that she’s not like the other ones that you’re used to. She is stronger, more capable, and would not be willing to take whatever playing game you might be throwing at her. Others might be willing to listen, but she is not that type. I think that you know that she’s been built to fight, not to love.”

“I don’t believe that everyone doesn’t have the capability of loving built to fight or not. She might have a little good in her. I want to see that good in her.” He said, and I nodded.

Carter’s footsteps approached, and I turned just in time to see him catch the tail end of our conversation. He didn’t say anything, but the shift in his expression was immediate. The faintest flicker of a frown.

“We’re chasing ghosts,” Ethan added. “Whatever did this is playing by rules we don’t fully understand. For us to be chasing ghosts was not part of the deal. We were supposed to kill Giovanni and then this year for us to now be any dealing with dead people tells me that Jovani played a game that even he does not even know. Or maybe he knew. But he did not expect the consequences.”

“We don’t have time to be confused,” I said. “We have to adapt. Fast. Giovanni should not be our concern. Whatever game he tries to play, he does for himself. He’s going to end up biting it.”

They both nodded. The weight of what still lay ahead settled in the space between us.

“I’ll check the southern post before dusk,” Carter said, already turning. “We’ll all be back here before it’s late.”

I nodded, watching him go. His shoulders were tenser than usual.
